Why does every one think this is a copy of battle royale?
Watch sliders season 3 ep 1 Rules of the game. It came out 4 years before BR . It's on Netflix.

No, it's not. Suzanne Collins's editor specifically told her to avoid reading or watching any Battle Royale books or movies while she was writing the Hunger Games books.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA u cant possibly believe that dussojanladde...
i mean the stories are basically identical, of course they are going to desperately deny any possible influence lol. Hunger games even steals specific concepts from battle royale.
Oh, what concepts are those, please enlighten us? Also could you let us in on what parts of the plot is identical, apart from the concept taken from 'Spartacus', 'Demetrious and the Gladiators', 'Quo Vadis' and 'Lord of the Flies'. Go on. tell us of these concepts that had never been seen before BR did them.

I have somewhat selfish reasons for wanting a Hollywood blockbuster based on Battle Royale - namely, I want my family to stop it with the "everything from Japan besides nintendo and toyota is crap" lines I always get for reading manga and liking anime. Guess I'll just have to hope that the live-action version of AKIRA does the trick.
sharePersonally, this is the definitive B-Movie. It's got bad acting, bad overdubs, bad filming, just plain out bad everything. But, more importantly, it's so bad it's funny! Really really funny! I was rolling on the ground laughing the first time I saw it. It's been a real hit with my friends and I and we always put it on if we're in the mood for the ultimate in cheese. Don't buy it if it's over $3.00 though. I purchased my copy for $2.00 at a bargain store.
shareThank you for acknowledging this! I will never read Hunger Games because of its similarities to Battle Royale which is one of my favorites.
Battle Royale has been out since 1999 and is an international hit and is still considered controversial.
[deleted]
They don't... most of them never even watched [let alone read the book it was based on!] Battle Royale but they just like going on about it. Because it supposedly make them superior to all of the people who enjoyed Hunger Games movies and books.
Fact is, Battle Royale is horrible adaptation of the original book [possibly even one of the worst book adaptations ever!] that completely ruined original ideas and message of the book. Fukasaku did not create a masterpiece, he made just another teen slasher movie... and not even a good one. And it's sequel was completely unwatchable.

touching on important topics about the modern day society
==========================
According to Wikipedia, Battle Royale 2 is about the military kidnapping juvenile delinquents and siccing them on some terrorists because the military is too cowardly to fight the terrorists themselves. What important topics are involved there? It sounds pretty stupid to me, or maybe the plot of a farce.
Why does every one think this is a copy of battle royale?
[deleted]
Also, the fact that it plagiarised battle royale 2, leads some to associate it with battle royale.
Not impossible per se!
1- Maybe the idea was transferred indirectly, via conversation or a "suggestion" by a friend who saw BR
2- Some authors actually LIE about Plagiarism! Believe it or not

How could anyone see a film that was never released in the US. I suppose somebody could have gone on vacation to Japan that Suzanne Collins knew. And I suppose that someone could have went into a theatre to see film that was not in English instead of doing what tourists do in foreign countries. And it could have been that BR was the only film playing when this unknown person went into the theatre to escape the joys of whatever town they were in in Japan, but you know something, I don't think that's very likely.
Yes some authors lie about plagiarism, but you don't even know what plagiarism is so how would you know?

WHAT?!? ARE YOU SERIOUS? who the hell cares if it wasnt released in the US..because...well..it was.. it was one of my favorite movies when i was younger and it is on netflix. you have never had to go to another country to watch that countries movies, are you stupid? it has english subs...just because it is a japanese movie doesnt mean it isnt accessible anywhere outside of japan.. are you *beep* kidding me?
Now as for the first two movies. neither are even remotely similar to BR at all. i have not seen mockingjay yet unfortunately so i will wait on judgment for another time. however BR was a good movie, but the only similarities is that people on an island are having an all out deathmatch.
The release dates are listed on this site, you can check them out if you want, but you seem to prefer to say that you saw a film that was never released in any format in the US and Canada. The countries it was released in are listed on the BR page along with the number of cinemas it played in that country. The last person on this board who actually insisted he saw it in a cinema and what cinema it was proved a liar because that cinema was not built till 9 years after he said he saw it. So you tell me, where did you see it. It wasn't on TV, it never was shown on any TV channel in the US, it did show once 7 years ago here in the UK. Go ahead, where did you see it? It was listed on Netflix when THG was released in 2012 but you couldn't get it, believe me I tried. You can get it on YouTube now, the date it was put up there is two years ago. YouTube also dates the clips.

I'm well aware that BR has been shown twice on Film 4 in the past 15 years
BR was shown once on UK TV 7 years ago at 2 AM in the morning. BR2 has never been shown to the best of my knowledge on UK TV, the Film 4 website still has a TBC time on the page along with a film review that is not a great recommendation. And somehow I don't think that the fact Film 4 showed BR once in the small hours of the morning was something that would impact on Suzanne Collins very much. I would imagine the reception in Connecticut leaves much to be desired.

Both BR and BR2 were shown on Channel 4 and Film 4 quite a lot since early 2000s not long after the first and seconds release.
I suggest you try telling that to Film 4. They obviously don't know it.
But maybe you get a different Film 4 than the one that broadcasts in the UK?
Rather than just admit he was wrong Speilburger just deletes his message.
[deleted]
I asked you to provide proof that BR2 had been shown on Film 4. I never claimed it hadn't been shown
(including making a false claim that there's no evidence on the internet of Goodfellas being shown on UK TV: http://digiguide.tv/pick-of-the-day/15+March+2007/film-goodfellas-a-true-classic/)
A little tip: you're acting like a BR troll.
that's why the likes of Summeriris are calling you out on it
Incidentally, you completely ignored the main point of my initial post, which is that the broadcast of BR/BR2 in the UK is completely irrelevant anyway.
Lot's of websites have reviews, but like I said ask Film 4. I watch Film 4 all the time, but not in the wee small hours of the morning. Maybe at one time in the past 15 years Film 4 did show BR 2, but neither I or the rest of the UK population knows about it. It's a waste of time discussing this because Suzanne Collins doesn't live in the UK and what is known to a tiny segment of the UK population has nothing to do with TV networks in Connecticut. Why don't you post about what was shown on Film 4 last October if you want to post about Film 4 in the UK?

She probably saw it on the USA channel like I did, since they're having BR marathons around the holidays.
=================================
As long as we're talking probabilities, I'll speculate that the BR trolls probably have financial interests in Battle Royale 2, and are furious that all the money went to the HUNGER GAMES franchise instead. So now they are hopping on HUNGER GAMES's coattails by talking about nonexistent similarities.

How could anyone see a film that was never released in the US. I suppose somebody could have gone on vacation to Japan that Suzanne Collins knew.Battle Royale was a 2003 movie. Collins could have easily downloaded it from the internet immediately upon release, just like anyone else. share
And where did she learn about this wonderful site where she could do just this? Who uploaded it? Did she have a dial up connection or did she have a broadband connection six years before the first broadband connection were in place? Pirate Bay was run on a shoestring until 2007, was Battle Royale available on it then? Can you confirm the upload date? Where did the uploader get the film to do this in the first place? And did they know that it was illegal and didn't care. This presupposes that Collins also knew it was illegal and didn't care. Do you have proof that she didn't care that she could be arrested and fined for doing this?
It's no use saying she 'could have' done it in your fantasy world. By that logic she could have applied to NASA to become an astronaut, I don't think she did though. 'Could Have' is a fantasy, your fantasy.

I take your point about lying. When do you think Takami read this book?
Knights of Forty Islands by Sergey Lukyanenko written 1988-1990
Dima, a 14-years boy who used to fight on streets of his native city Alma-ata, now has to fight in a place where swords are used instead of fists.
The new environment consists of forty islands, each connected to three others via high and narrow bridges. There is a castle on each island; and about 15-18 kids ("knights") live in each one. The islands are distinct: dictatorship or democracy, a brutal rude leader or a kind one. The population is made up of approximately 70% boys and 30% girls in homogenous or heterogeneous national groups, no one older than 18. Everyone wants to return home, but to do so they are told they must conquer all 40 islands.
Synopsis from Wikipedia
Wow, that Takami, talk about a bare faced rip off.

It's called spamming and IMDB should do something about it. It should be easy to filter out any thread that has Battle Royale in its title.

Thanks for the heads up, but upon checking out the sliders season 3 ep 1 it turns out that it is neither called Rules of the game, nor is any episode called Rules of the game. Nor is any single episode even remotely similar to Battle Royale II: Requiem.Hungertards are desperate to find the illusive source that BR2 ripped off, unfortunately for them, its 100% original to the point of creating its own subgenre (Sci-fi Political Thriller). I even saw one idiot trying to pass it off as a ripoff of Knights of the 40 Islands xD share
