Do you think there'll be a Part IV?

They left the ending wide open for a 4th.

Films I gave a 9 or 10 rating - http://www.imdb.com/list/gzfp55-XV-c/

I hope so. I really need to know what went on.

Would a Cupcake kill you?

reply

Probably not, obviously. It's confirmed that it's the last one. If there were more they'd need to remove all the posters for this one. It's called "Epic Finale to the Hangover Trilogy" but it'd be hilarious to see a whole movie with Stu having breasts.

Unless he writes and produces it, doubtful. It seems like its Todd Philips who wants to move on. Its clear anyway this shouldve been one film. They tried to redo the same formula in the 2nd one it failed. Skip the formula completely in the third it also failed. Sure they made money but story wise the first one was the only one to hit it out of the park.

Rest in peace Roger Ebert! You will be missed.

I don't think it's really fair to say it failed because you didn't like it. Saying they "failed" assumes they didn't do well in the box office, which is completely inaccurate.

Just because you're too stupid to understand it, doesn't mean it's a plot hole

reply

True, but people went to see the second and third one on the strength of the first one. Just because the second and third movies made money doesn't mean they were any good.

The first one was very good, I agree with the OP, I think it was only ever meant to be one movie, it hit, so they cashed in, and the sequel was "ok" if a bit stretched out.

That second one made a load of money again, so they went back to the well a final time before it got REALLY boring.

I didn't have big hopes for the third and it was "alright" in my opinion.

Yeah and HO 3 will easily be the least profitable film in the series. It has made around $300 million but cost $100 million to make. It will make a little more around $100 million in the U.S. Both HO 1 and 2 made $250+ million in the U.S. alone. Thats all you need to know how tired this series has gotten to the regular public.

If they made a 4th one it could possibly do even worse. Its definitely over.

Rest in peace Roger Ebert! You will be missed.

Part 2 cost 80 mil to make and grossed 580 mil worldwide.

Why else would they have made part 3 and hardly cared if it sucked?

Except now looks like Hangover3 will barely make budget.

So maybe there is justice after all ;-)

On the other hand, look how many Police Academy movies got made ;-)

Not really, for failed could refer to audience response, critic response, and failing to expand on the story from the first one. Meaning did you really need the sequels other than wanting to see the characters again.

I really hope not. They've really run the series into the ground. Neither sequel, while they both had their moments, was all that good.

The original, which is brilliant, is really a one-joke movie. They get drunk/drugged, they can't remember what the hell they did, crazy *beep* happens as a result. The End.

I don't understand why all these movies have to be made into franchises. Why can't there be stand-alone films anymore? Everything has to have four or five sequels these days and very VERY rarely do they live up to the original.

reply

Because it's easier to cash in on sequels than making something new. You think the big fat cats care if people actually LIKE what they crap out? HAH.

It's the same with video games now. Barely anything original that isn't Game Title #6. I only play indie games now because they can be enjoyable unlike copy pasted call of doody games. (not that im hipster, its just fact).

I'd love a great new movie with a great new idea but it just isn't gonna happen unless its indie, which will be loved and cherished, but not make enough billions to make fat cats want to put money into it so they can buy another yacht.

Face it, entertainment is dead.

reply

No, thank goodness. They said this will be the last movie and hopefully they really mean it. The 3 stars all have really good careers so hopefully they will move on and not get tied down to these one-dimensional characters.

However, money talks, so it is always a possibility.

The last scene was one of the only funny scenes in the movie. So that's kind of pushing it, to me at least, to base whether to make a sequel based on the reaction to that lol.

But whatever. I'm sure the suits will find a way to milk the series even more.

Well hopefully they do, but regardless...have your own at http://VegasHangoverExperience.com

Maybe a spinoff perhaps, but really? A part 4? I just saw this in theaters and this was clearly the WORST one in the Hangover trilogy. I doubt they'll bother with another one.

reply

Not for a while, since it's supposed to be the last Hangover movie, and the tagline is "it ends"

But I can't see this being the last Hangover movie ever, maybe in 5-10 years there'll finally be a part 4

reply

I really hope not.

Everyone is happy now. Doug is married, Stu is married, Phil was always happily married and now Alan is married... There's nobody left.

My prediction is there may well be a 4th movie, but like American Pie, it will be teenage actors you don't know, directed by a nobody and it will go straight to DVD. The movie title is open to interpretation.

If the main cast have any sense, they will be smart enough to end on a high and not typecast themselves.

I think the whole idea behind the end credit scene was to let the audience know there won't be a fourth... They had a good storyline to get 'The Wolfpack' back together, but not enough screen time to focus on Alan finding love and get married.

If they were planning a fourth movie they would have ended the film with Alan heading out on his Stag, not showing the conclusion to it (plus I'm assuming what we saw was just the wedding party).
