Yeah, it really lessened the impact of the film for me. I finally watched this tonight, and was surprised that it wasn't really that bad. Didn't feel that necessary either. But when the prom scene finally got rolling, it was fun to seen them going gonzo with modern effects. But then they really dialed it back. Turned it from an all out total nightmare tragedy into a typical revenge flick where the victim protagonist only meets out justice to those who wronged them. Meh. Anything special the movie had going on was lost at that point.
I get why they did it. The parallels in this story to school shootings is plain as day. As such, they shouldn't have wasted their time attempting this story in the first place. Not in this day and age.
