There is no redeeming 'message' to this movie, okay? It seems to be little more than an excuse to shock with porn-level sex - which VonTrier tries to class up by couching it all in tons of philosophical, religion, and classical music. Despite these elements, I came away feeling like I'd taken a 4-hour (I watched both films back-to-back) dip in a cess pool.

I am no prude. I have two kids; 30 & 27. I'm a military vet, had a pretty awful upbringing (including time in foster homes, and am not a religious believer. Culturally and politically, I'm very liberal. I have no problem with sex in art or real life. VonTrier is often called a "provocateur", and that's not a bad thing in and of itself. I don't believe artists always have to be 'safe' in terms of subject matter. But here, VonTrier is so over-the-top that his artistry is lost, imo. And it's not just the sex, either. There is violence, fetishism, suicide, abortion, and pretty much every type of base human behavior one can imagine graphically depicted. If you can stomach 'Nymphomaniac' and/or it's continuation in 'Nymphomaniac 2',, you will find virtually no redeeming characters - and the handful who MIGHT be are ridiculed and cast aside as fools.

Exposing teenagers to this garbage would be doing them a disservice. 'Nympho' is an ugly, ugly film all around (and believe it or not, '2' is even worse.) Look, I'm a mature 51-year-woman who's drawn to some darker elements of life . . . and even I don't want to see this movie again!

You seriously have to ask this question? Perhaps you should look at the IMDb page for the movie and scroll down and click on the link that says "Parents Guide: View content advisory >>". You might save yourself some embarrassment.

The link is situated just below the "Storyline" section. Honestly though, save yourself time that you will never get back... it was terrible and nothing more than a thinly diguised porn film.
