Ended kinda meh

Not a terrible ending but honestly underwhelming. It’s like the show built to something big that never happened. Thoughts?

It's a complete ending that leaves it open to a potential S02, which the showrunner has suggested he wants to do apparently.

In terms of for-profit story-telling, I suppose it makes sense. I don't understand why Daniela and Charlie did not very quickly record a video for the message board saying they found their husband and father. He's the one, and they've branded him with identifying marks. I don't know why the vast majority of the other Jasons would not immediately understand. The more divergent Jasons who made it would be less like the one Daniela ultimately chose. They could always console themselves that in some other part of the multi-verse, they were the version who ended up with her. It just didn't make sense the protagonist could not answer the question, "Why does he get to be the one who ends up with her?" before even asking it. By sheer luck, all of them built a life with her; they won the lottery in that sense.

In terms of metaphysics, we are our identity. If some facsimile of me, almost identical in every respect, lived on with the wife and kid, then that's me. It's like the Star Trek thing about getting in the teleporter thing (I don't watch Star Trek) where the atoms on one end are basically destroyed.

With all of this said, it does not make sense to me that the family would go into the blasted box. All of the other Jasons should eff off to other worlds or disappear themselves in this one. If I go to sleep and an identical copy of myself is born, then it doesn't matter which one vanishes. By the way, this is why The Prestige is kind of stupid. Hugh Jackman's character yells about how he didn't know if he'd end up the poor bastard drowning in the box. That version of Jackman, however, NEVER ended up drowning in the box. He had a perfect record.

Not enough ampoules, and the Jasons are gunna keep coming. It's not like the flood necessarily stops.

Plus there's like dozen+ dead Jasons all over the place. Authorities are gunna be very curious soon.

reply

That's why I said they could "disappear themselves in this one." And if they're disappeared, then nobody will go looking for them.

Where were the Jasons before the flood began? Why didn't some filter in already? They should seal and/or destroy the box. The Jasons could flood the world where it's available.

And the moment any other Jason spots Daniella/Charlie, it's a risk. I don't think they want to live in hiding, or in quiet solitude somewhere.

They could block off the box (although it's likely that one Jason will eventually come through with some explosive device or just smash the whatevers blocking the box with some equipment...), but there's hundreds of Jasons already there. What do they do? No Ampules. What about when the authorities spot all the dead Jasons, and/or other alive Jasons?

This was addressed earlier. The Jasons' reaction is out of character.

reply

It only takes a handful of Jasons who have been driven to extreme actions to try something.

And what would all of the Jasons in that world do anyway?

reply

Try what? Even the original antagonist Jason came around. There are an infinite number of alternative worlds where not a single Jason has claimed a highly similar Daniela.

The show is a lot more meaningful if understood through a lens of psychology rather than physics. That's in part because of the physics are, shall we say, rather questionable. The only reason umpteen Jasosns converge all of sudden is to heighten the obstacles for the protagonists, which in turn validates their love. This is a basic principle of dramatic storytelling. When conflict is so obviously fabricated -- almost parachuted in -- then it undermines the suspension of disbelief.

reply

There were clearly Jason’s that were willing to kill and go to extremes….leaving this world was the only real option

reply

This is such nonsense. Nearly all of the Jasons were easily cowed when the family walked past into the box, undoubtedly with ampoules. What would that mean for all of the Jasons therein? There would be almost no chance they'd ever see Daniela and their kid again. They were condemned to a world without them.
