The ending was SO bad!!

It completely changed the characters.

The killer changed his MO when he wanted to torture Casey and not kill her like he killed Leah.
Jordan went out on the field and when she dropped her phone in the dungeon she made the decision to go after the phone instead of going to ask for help in another way?
Casey was this little cute teenager who cried thinking about what was going to happen and at the end of the day she stabbed the killer with a pair of scissors AND then suggested they should leave him there tied up to a chair?
Jordan agrees to the ideas of a 15 year old instead of calling her colleagues at 911 to report that they have the killer?

Also, now they have to lie saying that Jordan found Casey in the woods?
The police are going to want to know where she escaped from and why does Jordan have bruises on her...there's going to be questions. If by any chance someone will find the killer's body strapped to a chair, will no one take the prints from the chair / tape and other things in the room?
such a bad idea, this ending.

I already started laughing when he put on the tape player and Karma Chameleon started playing, but indeed, it was so out of character for letting him die there...

TOTALLY AGREE with you

What makes me angry is my mom is very satisfied with the ending!

She said "That *beep* deserves that" brokes my heart

The ending ruined this film, I know that Brad Anderson hates making a NORMAL movie——such as Machinist, Session 9——I have to mention that these two are my favourite——they are all dark, and twisted, but that's all right, beccause these are what this movie are meant to be.

Everyone became so stupid in this movie, it was distracting. I'm tired of the hero (or heroine) of the movie charging into danger without calling the police first. The blonde crawling up front in the vehicle, screaming her head off without getting out of the car first. The gas station attendant walking around to get to the door after the killer locked the passenger side (obviously in an attempt to get the attendant closer).

I'm going to rewatch Game of Thrones now, where the roles aren't dumbed down.

Yeah, they should've just ended it with him getting killed. Calling the police to to arrest him seems too bittersweet and them leaving him there tied to a chair to die seems too unrealistic. So, even if it's cliche, it should've just ended with him getting killed.

I would have accepted it, if they just made sure he was dead, so that he cannot escape police/prison somehow. What they did instead doesn't make sense for both characters, makes them criminals* who may get caught by the police later, and even includes the danger of him escaping the dungeon and going after them or killing someone else.

* Well, killing him would make them criminals too, but they could just finish him in a way that the police could accept as part of the struggle in self-defense. Instead, they hide from the police so if it's found out, they will be criminalized for their actions for sure.

Most of the comments here were as dumb as end of the film.

Quick reality rundown:

1. the FBI is brought in on all child abductions
2. the property the Killer owned would Never have been left unattended for Halle's character to examine. it would've been swarming with agents running evidence on Killer, and they would've easily found the underground bunker/also via dogs on Casey's scent (i guess they had to leave that fact out to get Halle there).

So setting this aside, for entertainment purposes, Halle's character not calling ahead (at least to cop boyfriend) telling him where she'd be was outrageous! They could've added 5 second reality moments in order to make the film easier to swallow.

Funny how there being NO ladder for them to get back into the bunker to tie up Killer drove me nuts! How in the heck were they supposed to get down there!

I do think the last thing they said to the Killer was just to torment him - not what they were actually going to do. But this bothers me more, as why not take the opp to actually torture him?!

One of the worst endings I've ever seen. It's like they ran out of money and just threw that line in there and had them walk out. Ridiculous.

The movie sucked but you need to know what you are talking about. We don't know what he did to leah before he killed her. It is possible he does the same thing to every girl he kidnapped. They JUSY DIDNT SHOW IT FOR LEAH. DUH!!!!

I liked this movie but the ending left me cold. Surely there was a better way to end it than the mental baggage both women would be left with doing what they did. Plus of course the legal issues if they were ever found out. And also, that property would likely be sold since the kidnapper's family wouldn't likely be holding onto it and someone would find the hidden places. Police would be able to connect the dots quite easily.

reply

We don't know that Jordan didn't go back and tell her man where she was. Casey will be debriefed too.

reply

What legal issues? If they even went to a court and had a trial there would be no way a jury would find them guilty after defending themselves and leaving a serial killer to die after escaping him.

who care?

I also felt the movie lacked realism at the point where she dropped her phone. She had been ordered to go home so wouldn't be taking any more calls and her mental state wouldn't allow her to rest, so her search was understandable. She attempted to call for 'backup' but dropped her phone down the hatch and that is the contrivance that had me saying, "Oh no, not this, again?" Once she retrieved her phone she SHOULD have gone back to call 911, but that would preclude the conclusion scene. After retrieving the phone she heard cries of distress and, being personally involved, emotion overcame reason, sounds familiar.

Everything considered, it kept me involved, like so few movies do these days, and was well worth the hour and a half, so I can forgive the ending a bit.

While I agree that the ending is unrealistic and is cliched, can anybody accept that the rest of the movie is good or at least decent? It is certainly not great, but the movie is receiving too much flak just because of its ending.
