What an amazing film
Spotlight has to be one of the best films I've seen in a long time. The acting was just right - no overacting, which would've ruined the film. All the performances were measured, yet still conveyed the emotion. I totally believed that they were journalists, and I know that they met with their 'real' counterparts.
A very difficult subject to cover in a film; telling the story without being melodramatic must have been hard. It is a subject that makes people feel angry, (although a few posts I've read here seem to think its trivial), but the anger didn't become its own character.
To say I enjoyed this film is wrong - how can I enjoy something about such a horrific subject? But I admired it greatly, and it made me want to read more about the subject. We need more films like Spotlight, rather than the constant stream of superhero/cgi movies we seem to have at the moment. There is nothing wrong with them, (except they are usually rubbish) but can't we have all tastes catered for?
