their police "lab" is in a different country (Guadeloupe)

This setting is fictitious, of course, but it's supposed to be under British rule, with British cops showing up from London---or not?

How can the lab work and other forensics be handed over to a French-ruled country (Guadeloupe)?
Shouldn't it be sent to another, larger British ruled Island?

The show suggests a few questions:

Why does an island that rates an international airport and several high-end hotels and resorts have only four cops with one car between them?

Why does such a small island have such a high murder rate?

Why doesn't the ridiculously high murder rate on the relatively small island cause the British authorities to assign more police, with sufficient vehicles, and their own on-site lab?

Why, in a tropical place buzzing with large crawling and flying insects, does everybody live in houses with no screens on the windows?

Does the motorcycle belong to Duane (he is always the driver), and why did it suddenly change from a Triumph to a Royal Enfield?

Is the vintage rotary dial telephone on the wall of the police station still in use?

Does the commissioner actually do anything, other than stroll around in his fancy uniform?

Why don't they just go arrest the murderer as soon as they figure out who it is, instead of gathering everyone involved together for a theatrical presentation of the evidence?

When everyone is summoned to gather for the presentation of the evidence and revelation of the killer, why does the killer always show up instead of bolting?

Are there any other genres of popular music on the island?

How does Camille drink so much beer, yet remain thin?

Haha so true
To go back to the op, I get the impression this is a French/British island.

->According to the in-show history, Saint-Marie was first a French colony but was then conquered by the British who lost it to the dutch who then lost it to the french and remained so until it was transferred back to the British in the mid 1970s thus making the population a combination of French and British nationals.
