Question About the Bat Signal.

What I’m trying REALLY hard to understand is how when Batman was still considered an outlaw & vigilante by the police, with him being you know really unwelcome at the crime scenes that Gordon brought him to & got into trouble for, to top it all off he builds a custom signal for him when he needs to summon him. Mind blown! How in the HELL did Gordon ever get permission to build a signal to tell him that he was needed & to come?

Because if such a thing was not authorized by the Gotham PD which I have to assume it wasn’t, that’s even MORE the reason for them to crucify Jim’s ass & bust him down to parking officer. You think like everybody else they don’t see that up in the sky? What do you think they wind up saying? “Uh Gordon IS AT IT AGAIN! Can somebody fire this guy? WTF?”

Who’s going to stand for that? Flat out insubordination at the highest level. Who was HE to do that? You only have the governor, the mayor, the commissioner, to answer to. Because no one is going to try & look for this thing to destroy it. That really had to reflect badly on them corrupt or not I’m sure no city police agency is going to appreciate that, especially when Bats was not “in the fold” yet so to speak. Talk about an absurd plot point.

Do you think this is a silly thing to nitpick over? But I have to wonder. Anybody else?

The bat signal was cool -- in the 1960s maybe.
What happens if it's not cloudy, or if Bruce Wayne is indoors in a meeting?
Couldn't he just use a pager, or a burner cell phone with no GPS?

If its not cloudy you can still see the spotlight, just not whats the image on it is. Theres enough particulate in the air for the air to look glowing. Especially in polluted cities like NYC.

^This.

It's meant more to strike fear into the hearts of the underworld and assure Gotham that they have a dark knight watching over them. It's iconic and I just roll with it as part of the mythology.

But, yeah, practically speaking, it's pretty stupid. I'd love to see somebody spoof the ridiculousness of it in a parody movie.

(A pager! That made me laugh hard. Batman runs down to the Batcave to receive the detailed fax that Gordon sends him with pertinent information. Aargh! "Alfred the paper tray is empty!")

C'mon, it's a spotlight with a piece of metal over it.
