"The Batman Will Be 'Darker' Than Previous Films"

Dark usually sells. Good decision maybe throw in some baby joker scenes. You know?

I agree. I won't be watching it.
shareI think we kinda do, it’d be nice to see some villains on screen that we haven’t seen yet.
shareBatman is like James Bond, there will always be new movies about him,and thats good (for both characters)
shareYou can say that about any character. “Superman is like James Bond,” “Indiana Jones is like James Bond” blah blah blah. At the end of the day, we do not need every movie to become a franchise with endless sequels.
shareHe's not at all like James Bond.
shareHow darker can they get? Nolan’s films where dark. What they gonna do in this?
shareNolan's films weren't dark at all. In fact they were incredibly child friendly with corny dialogue.
shareThere was some controversy around violent content in TDK. It got the most restrictive age rating possible in some European countries.
shareThe Joker killed like 30 people in the dark night.
shareWhile it had some corny dialogue. I would hardly call it child friendly.
shareI guess they could make them R rated.
shareSuppose it depends on your interpretation of dark! As said Nolan’s was Pritty dark, but was still a 12A blockbuster. You could argue Ben Afflick was darker in that he branded the victims and the injuries were a bit more graphic, batarang through shoulder, broke limbs etc. I am hoping for a more seven style thriller with the riddler tone wise dark than. Just a bit more graphic fights dark! At first was thinking this be awful with Pattinson the more I see the more I like to be honest.
shareI'll never understand why people automatically seem to equate "dark" with "good". Dark can be good, depending on how it's handled, the subject matter, etc., but with something like Batman, I feel like there's only so dark it can get before it becomes needlessly gratuitous.
shareThe apes movies that Matt reeves did give me a lot of confidence that his style will work really well for a Batman movie.
shareSure, but that's about the director and a certain vibe he'll set. I still don't see why "dark" is automatically "good". It worked in Logan, not so much with Super Mario Brothers.
shareWho said that? Nobody in this thread even implied dark equals good. You're literally just arguing with yourself.
When people start these threads (this one will be darker), it's usually to say, "so that's a good sign" or to imply it. Maybe I leaped to a conclusion with my initial reply to the OP, but the article he linked to is either neutral or positive (it ends saying with the writer saying he's looking forward to the film).
shareDo you think a Batman movie in the style of The Crow, Sin City, Watchmen could be good?
shareHeck, yes. I think embracing the stylized nature of comics is one of the best ways to adapt these things. One of the reasons the MCU and X-Men franchises have gotten dull is because they have a very flat aesthetic. They just look like every other movie. A Batman flick with a Crow vibe...yeah, man. Bring it on.
shareI mean like I'm not surprised. It doesn't have to be such a bleak dark film but a Batman film shouldn't be some lighthearted fun family friendly film
