I hope he plays a sparkly batman.

i don't know if this will make the perpetually outraged twitter fan-people happy. almost certainly not would be my guess.

but i think this is quite good news.
i was a marvel kid, & still am loyal to that brand. i am not particularly inclined to be excited by a batman movie.
but pattinson is a legitimately great actor. i think he could really bring something unique & fun & ugly & weird to that role.
check out his performances in high life, good time & lost city of z for evidence of such things.
so a big yay from me!

Good Time alone is enough for me to really like this news.

THE ROVER AS WELL.

haven't seen it, but have heard great things.
just added it to my letterboxd watchlist.

Lots of luck to him.

reply

I agree. Hope he nails it.

I honestly don’t understand the hate from so-called “serious Batman fans”.

I mean, what does the role require? An intelligent, broody & sullen man, prone to fits of rage and violence, haunted by the death of his parents, who can also pretend to be an aloof playboy to the public.

I don’t see how Pattinson doesn’t fit that criteria. The most superficial complaint would be about his size, however a few months in the gym will solve that.

If he’s awful, I’ll say so. Until them, I’m in.

Plan A was Armie Hammer but I think he's done with franchise movies. Plan B being Josh Hartnett. Only I think people believe he's dead :(

I'd say Twilight is beneath him and that he fired his agent afterwards, he's moved and left the whole blockbuster thing behind so he could do smaller indi-movies to prove that he is a better actor, but I haven't seen any of them, but I heard he got praise for most of them. I'd wish him the best but you can't judge about someone playing a role before cameras start rolling, or if a trailer is released or before the film itself is released.

You should check out his recent works as he's been knocking it out of the park. Good Time, High Life, Lost City of Z, The Rover, Life, Damsel in Distress and recent film The Lighthouse which he's been getting some of his greatest reviews. The guy is far better actor then Twilight films suggest. He's about to be the lead in the new Christopher Nolan film, so him playing Batman shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, the haters need to get on board and forget about Twilight as those days are long gone of him been just another pretty boy actor.

He's definitely going to need padding in that suit. But Keaton proved that can be pulled off.

We don't know if he's working out behind the scenes as we speak, look how Christian Bale did it in such a small amount of time when he did The Machinist and to getting into shape for Batman Begins, which is just crazy how he did it. Same for Daniel Craig when he did Casino Royale. So a few months of hardcore training and he will get himself into top shape.

The body can bounce back to form pretty fast but gaining new muscle size in a short period of time is almost impossible... without the juice.
