What's up with Billy Bob's water?


On the first day of the hearing, why does the camera zoom onto Billy Bob's folding cup as he "shakes" it open. It is shown many other times, as well. Perhaps the director wants to emphasize Billy Bob's character qi an outsider, or suggest Thorton's character has traits of OCD.

Or that he always has a clean cup to drink from?

I noticed that. I think it's to say he's obsessive, as in he will be that way about the trial. Maybe there was a scene or two on the cutting room floor that explained it.
