If you are looking for Star Wars, look elsewhere. No whiz-bang here.

This is a true film noir set in the future. Think Chinatown.
Is it slow? Yes, but it is a detective story. We find the clues with the protagonist and piece the mystery together with him. I was not bored for one minute in the two hour and forty minute run time.

There are multiple factions at play, and the protagonist is mainly trying to stay alive, while solving the mystery.

The action sequences are visceral. The acting across the board is magnificent.

Star making performances by Sylvia Hoeks and Ana de Armas. We will be seeing much more from them.

Well said and totally agree but it appears that we are the minority on this board right now.

We are by no means in the minority in feeling this way (generally speaking), but in places like this the opposition sure speak loud.

Nonetheless, I concur. 2049 looks spectacular, it is beautifully acted, and totally gripping. Astonishing film.

I second everything you have said here, my friends, and it is goose-bump-refreshing to find more who understand what Mr. Villeneuve has done with this incredible film.

I hope others, like us, will continue to chime-in on this board, echoing the praise this film truly deserves.

At this point, I'm inclined to agree but I need more viewings and time to get to a "masterpiece." But, worst, case, it is an outstanding movie.
