very good omen
shareIDK. Most of the reviews praise the visuals and twists. For me, that does not a good movie make. That's the sort of praise you give a video game.
shareHonestly, you can't go by the Rotten Tomatoes score anymore. Hollywood has found a way to taint with them. Mad Max Fury Road immediately comes to mind.
sharehuh? which was a good movie??
shareRespectfully, I enjoyed the heck out of MMFR on a lot of levels, from the visuals to the action to the story and spirit of it. I hadn't been planning on seeing it in theaters until I became intrigued by the very high Rotten Tomatoes score. I'm glad I gave it a shot on the big screen--for me it was a really great movie.
shareI can’t say this is surprising. Great to hear! But as always, the crowd that was never going to give this film a chance to begin with it are already doubting the reviews and are writing it off as another CGI cash grab (that would be a first for 2049’s auteur director). Oh boy.
Sure, you won’t find a review in which the film’s stunning visuals aren’t being praised to no end, but rarely does any movie get this high of an RT score - and stellar reviews in GENERAL - based solely on how great it looks. For what it’s worth, the reviews that have really caught my attention are those lauding the film’s inventiveness, tone and narrative (according to more than a few it outdoes the original in that aspect). And of course, the performances are also being raved about.
Seems to me the film is getting called “great” basically for the same reasons the original is beloved. The original Blade Runner is a special masterpiece in a league of its own, and I myself was a little appalled when I heard a sequel was headed our way. But if maybe, just maybe a sequel to it could be impressive, and dare I say equal it in many ways, then I welcome it.
