39 is "old"?

The average female life expectancy in Canada is around 84. Broads are sensitive enough about ageing without movies telling them they're cooked by their late 30s (or even earlier, since the film is not specific about the age at which one's ass becomes "old").

A female Hallmark executive was calling 42 year old Lacey Chabert old.

I don't think it's something that will ever end until women end it themselves.

reply

To an 18-yr-old it is.

reply

Came to say this. It always been like that.

I've got underwear that's 39 years old (good chance I'm wearing it), so I don't see it that way.

But to teens and twenty-somethings? Yeah, 39 is "ancient" (I think Wally Cleaver said that).

reply

I just turned 40 the other day so I can safely say 39 year olds are Squeakers who love Pokemon and Minecraft

reply

yes, disgustingly old, in fact

reply

You do know this film was created by a woman…one that’s right around 39 years old

reply

As a 25 year old, yes. 39 is fucking old.

reply

Maybe in your anime world.

reply

You’ll be “fucking old” soon then

reply

14 years is quite a long time

reply

you’ll waste it arguing with strangers on the internet, in the blink of an eye you’ll be on your death bed.

Also you’re no spring chicken either.

reply

I think one understands that their life value, exuberance, spirit / whatever you want to call it is effectively over at 40.

Sure you can rail against it for a bit but psychologically you certainly have the formation of understanding that the cheque's in the post. So yeah, it's okay thematically to describe 39 as old...

reply

If 39 is old then 50 must be so ancient you’ll need a cane and walker?

reply

Er, maybe... But I was talking more psychologically how you know it's gone by the age of 39. Maybe you're fine walking until your're 70/80 - who knows - but that's another matter.

reply

Turning 40 is a milestone, but not like it used to be. 40 year olds are generally healthier and younger looking than they were decades ago. They say 40 is the new 30. For a lot of people, 40s are their peak years (either professionally, romantically, or spiritually).
