Casting DiCrapio was a massive mistake
Whilst not being a huge DiCaprio fan, I don't have a full on out and out ban on watching his output as I do with Tom Hanks.
e.g. Inception and Shutter Island are both pretty good and his inclusion doesn't particularly have a negative impact on the films (although perhaps his fatherly role in Shutter Island seems unlikely).
However, his inclusion here! Wow, the film pretty much nose dives as soon as he appears. He's almost literally like a (Eric Cartman-ish) cartoon figure being dropped into an adult film. His little ball face is just all wrong and he seems to be playing it with a horrible Clooney / Pitt Ocean's Eleven "Aren't I just amazing at hamming this up" self awareness that pretty much kills the tone of the film.
Very disappointing. Put an Ed Harris or even a Christian Bale in that role and I'm pretty sure they would have knocked it out the park with an authenticity of character but it's like Leo just couldn't commit to it.
Christoph Waltz and DiCarpio shouldn't have shared the same screen
