My thoughts on Coven
Season 1 I rated 7/10. Season 2 I rated 10/10 and would rate it 11/10 if I could. So it was about time for me to move on to season 3 after all this time. First of all, I am a huge fan of the fish eye lens camera and crooked angles shots (one of the reasons Terry Gilliam is one of my favourite directors and I love the movie The Favourite so much) and this show uses it a lot. It wins a Major point there. As for the story, it’s better than the first season but not as amazingly-wickedly -awesome as the second season (impossible anyways). The dialogues are always solid, emotional and clever. The cast is strong as always. The gore is great if a bit sparse. What fascinates me the most about this series is how they keep managing to include so many different elements into one story; This time we got witches, voodoo, zombies, incest, necrophilia, necromancy, fertility, child abuse, racism, religion, love, sex, cheating, aging, cancer, Frankenstein, minotaur, Stevie Nicks, an evil axeman’s spirit… plus, it’s fricking hilarious at times (i.e. see Spaulding). I watched 1 or 2 episodes everyday till I was done so for me, I can consider that binging. Oh and one last thing; why is the music so good? Why is this season so good? Geniuses at work, that’s why. My only complaints are with the final episode but it’s quite major. spoilers alert: they brought back all the witches except for Nan. Unless the actress became unavailable, I don’t see why they’d cut her out the portrait. She could’ve been The supreme as much as any other one and I actually would’ve liked her to be it but no they had to go with the more obvious choice. So yeah, the big Supreme reveal was slightly disappointing. Anyways, My rating: 8.5/10
