6 - Worst season so far. By far

Wow.
I cant believe this actually made it past the boardroom brainstorming session.
This could have been a great anthology tv show. after all the promise of the teasers.

This is what you get when you reach later seasons of a show that has run out of ideas.
All the terrible disjointed elements of recycled most haunted/ghost hunter tv, the irritating and overused 'shaky cam' from Blair Witch, and infuriating dragged out 'eye witness' based accounts.
Not homage, Not parody, just multiple formats directly lifted and jammed together. And not in a good way.

Painfully derivative patch work of other peoples ideas but without a coherent story.
Such a shame.

*Coven

reply

I loved it and I'm sad it;s over.

Little tip though...

Drum roll pease...

The entire show from the get go has been an homage to horror movies.

reply

Freak Show has been overtaken. I didn't want to ever be disappointed with this show. It makes me sad.

reply

I agree with Gabriel. Coven was by far the worst. There was absolutely no "Horror". We were watching "Witches 90210". It should have been on the CW!

reply

Witches 90210

LOL

reply

Ok I do completely get what you're saying re 90210 but I don't think its fair to say there was absolutely no horror,I think there was lots.

I really enjoyed Coven.

Although there's been rain and it's coming again
Change has to be here obviously

I would certainly enjoy some examples of this claim.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

reply

Serial killer The Axman, resurrection, zombies, black magic, the sadism of Madame Delphine,decapitation...

I hope you enjoyed those examples!

Hmm well I guess when I see horror defined as "seeking to elicit a negative emotional reaction from viewers by playing on their fears" maybe some of that was attempting that? I don't think any of that came across as terrifying. Delphine just came off disgusting. I guess there were some attempts at horror so thanks for the list but it didn't register as horror when I watched it.

reply

Well I think the things I listed are commonly defined as "horror",as per your definition.

Sometimes disgusting is horrific, I think what she did to her slaves was horrific and by extension disgusting.

We could spend hours arguing over whether it was indeed horror and we'd most likely disagree 

I think it's fair to say it's subjective.

What I would say is that Coven does come across as a more "tongue in cheek" or even humorous type of horror at times.

I do get why people don't like it but I did.

I think the things listed were horror elements, but they way they are presented are what make it actually horror. Coven just seemed to gloss over horrific things with a lightheartedness.

reply

I think AHS has always been cut with dark humour.

I do think it's fair to say that the idea that there was no horror whatsoever was a little bit of an exaggeration!

I think it's unfair to say there was "no horror" and that there was "lots of horror."

reply

Well I gave you 8 examples of horror that appeared in that season of AHS and that was just off the top of my head. So yes I feel that does amount to a lot.

It's fine to disagree about this and I've already said I understand why it didn't appeal to some.

Personally I quite like horror tinged with humour, things like Fright Night,The Faculty or Society which manage to be horrific and funny at the same time.

I agree that there are horror themes in this, and quite a bit of dark humour.

reply

Maybe something we can all agree on is that AHS does horror and humour.

Amen! What a mess.

My roommate watches this, and I do work on my laptop in the living room while paying half attention to this show. It is some of the most god-awful garbage I have ever seen. I have no idea how people can watch this crap.

I have no idea how people can watch this crap.

I dont know how people can watch reality tv but guess what - I dont need to know. Last time I checked this was the free world and people are free to like whatever they want. If the show is so deplorable to you maybe take your tippy tappy back to your bedroom and leave your flatmate in peace. Easy peasy japanesy.

reply

Well, you've been paying the show only half of your attention. If you gave the show your full attention, you would realize it's quite a delicious treat. Remember, shows and movies are made for entertainment. You're free to be a self-appointed director and miss out on fun and funny tv shows.

I enjoyed it immensely, I felt the season was quite cohesive and I liked the elements of horror. If it wasn't for you, that's fine.

reply

I really liked it because it was different but the end sucked hard.

It should have ended at the 9th episode with the kids or the actors on stage in hindsight about what was to come. Then ended it there...
