Or did the show start strong out of the gate with Season 1 and go downhill from there. I loved season 1 and from there in my opinion the show got perpetually worse until I couldn't bring myself to watch the last season past the first episode.

I didn't like asylum either. Nothing redeeming at all about that show and just made you want to cut yourself the whole show. BUT it wasn't as bad as season 5 which was too dumb to even finish.

shareI'm actually with you. Murder House was my favorite and Asylum was awesome, Coven was mainly background noise, and I couldn't get through more than three episodes of Freak Show. I didn't even attempt Hotel.

I'm pretty sure the popular opinion is the show's quality started going downhill with season 3. I still think "Coven" was the worst but I haven't seen all of "Hotel" yet.

shareSeasons one and two were great. Two was my favorite but one was very close. I'd never seen anything like it on television (tv shows I mean, obviously not meaning movies).
Three and four were let downs but had some moments that were pretty good, plus Jessica Lange is a legend.
Season five was one of the worst things I've ever watched in my life. How anyone enjoyed it was beyond me. So yeah, I agree, it's went downhill.
I'm still clinging stubbornly to the hope that this season will be better.
I personally liked Coven because it was the most fun but definitely is not the best written season.

Also I've watched every single episode so my judgement is probably a bit better than those who've only managed like 3 or less for that season.
The first 2 are the best I must admit. Each to their own with which one they prefer. I think Asylum is the best first time watch.
But Season 1 is better to rewatch.
Season 3 is so much fun and had the best characters I think of the entire series. As in all but Zoe and whoever Evan Peter's was? Zombie guy is all I now call him.
But Jessica Lange, Lilly Rabe, Frances Conroy, Gabourey Sidibe, Kathy Bates and Dennis O'Hare had amazing characters to play in season 3. I think Dennis O'Hare's character was bettered in season 5, whereas Lilly Rabe and Jessica Lange could have been considered better in Asylum but either way had amazing characters to play.
I only think Freak Show was a real let down. I continuously wanted it to be better and it just nevef really happened. It had some odd good moments. Evan Peters had some good scenes. And some of the Freaks were pretty good like Paul, Amaazing Eve and Ma Petite. But the main cast was mostly a let down and not entirely their own fault but due to writing. Lange was a real disapointment in Freak Show, her character is probably my most disliked of the entire series. But Sarah Paulson, Even Peters and Frances Conroy were pretty good. Angela Basset, through no fault of her own was a real let down this season.
Overall season 5 I actually enjoyed but it definitely not as good as the first 3 seasons.
I do have high hopes for the new season though. Since they are not giving us any real clues about the season I think they will have planned it out solidly and it will probably go back to the roots of seasons 1 and 2. Well that's what I hope.

shareI definitely think that season 1 is by far the best. I don't really care for seasons 2 and 4, but I really like seasons 3 and 5. Season 6 kind of has me worried because it seems like I love the odd numbered seasons and dislike the even numbered seasons. I'm hoping season 6 breaks this streak.
