This movie will stand as one of the best of all time

That's not even a fan saying it.

SPOILERS in this review however...

http://www.cinemablend.com/reviews/Captain-America-The-Winter-Soldier- 6771.html

“The film is everything anyone could want from a comic book movie, and will stand as one of the best of all time.” – Eric Eisenberg (Film Critic, CinemaBlend)

That's a critic.

Some spoiler free highlights...

The new sequel is a character driven story that is as much about Captain America (Chris Evans) fighting a wide-spread and powerful enemy as it is about him finding a place in the modern world, adjusting his life completely after having grown up in the 1930s, fought in World War II and been frozen in ice for 60+ years.

It’s a mark of a great script and a great edit if you can look back at an entire film and not find a single extraneous scene, and that’s just one of Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s many great hallmarks.

The script is taut and well-structured, the layers of the film’s mystery unfolding gradually and leading to an ambitious third act filled with important consequences. Every scene that doesn’t directly relate to the plot adds great layers to the characters and their relationships.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is Marvel’s most thrilling, action-packed work yet.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a spectacularly-made, tense, thrilling ride, and whether you go to the theater for the blockbuster action or the exciting story, you will leave more than satisfied.

DC fans are gonna have a hard time after reading that. They still have a hard time dealing with The Avengers and that was 2 years ago lol.

I Still Believe In Heroes

If those DC fan-goons were more than just a raging ball of anger they would click there and realize he praised TDK at the start of that article. He then goes on to praise Marvel and then this movie.

I accept your surrender.

It stands as the best of 2014 with the year half done. Is anyone even arguing that at this point?

reply

Even though it is my favorite movie of 2014 so far, there are people out there who have a different choice. In the comic book arena I would say many people might say DOFP, which I thought was pretty good too.

I know my wife is thinking the new Apes movie might beat out CAWS for her favorite.

reply

It's a great debate to have but I know that the debate will rage even years from now. 2014 will always get mentioned as the best year for the genre because of Winter Soldier, DOFP and now Guardians.

reply

ah, no, simply it won't, it's way too primitive and predictable in the story department, even campy at times (like that *beep* with cutting holes out of cars and tunnels into the solid ground in the matter of seconds - it's like cop out from some 80s cartoons) . Although it has one of the best stunts/ action sequences direction, outside the fandom this movie will be forgotten pretty soon. I would give it a pass because it's based on comics, but there were Batman films just recently, and they managed to be smarter and still entertaining. Of course comparing to Godzilla and Transformers this movie shines. I'm fairly disappointed in Marvel at this stage, maybe because I had high expectations for this one, because the early reviews were so praising...

reply

no one can really know if anything current will withstand the test of time.

that said, i grew up in the 80s, and films with all those things you list as negatives are considered classics of the action cannon--including films like die hard, predator, and even aliens (the entire third act of aliens is literally lifted from alien, just pumped full of steroids!). as a film, TWS is at least as good as some of those films, even better in many ways.

and no, the batman movies were not that smart. the dark knight is one of the more sentimental movies in memory. in the final confrontation with the joker, batman's plan to stop the bombs was... he knew the citizens of gotham were too kind-hearted to blow each other to bits. that's the plan?!!!! what was plan b?

This film certain beats anything Nolan has put on screen and that pretty much goes without saying.

reply

That's simply not true. Aside from the Batman films, I'm a huge fan of Nolans work. Especially Momento which is without question a better film than this. This is a good\fun popcorn movie, but let's be honest with ourselves here, it's not the epitome of cinema.

It's called Memento. Memento and The Prestige were the only two good movies he has made. If you're such a big fan you should at least know the name of his movies.

"Relics of ancient times. Lonely cenotaphs. Standing along that melancholy tideland."

reply

Right, because you've never made a mistake while typing before. That clearly means I don't know anything about his work...

And now we're getting into personal preference. You only liked two of his movies, that doesn't mean they were the only two that were any good. Interstellar and Inception are both very good(despite the fact that you evidently didn't enjoy them). Insomnia has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Just..... chill out man. It's a good movie and all but... chill out. Change your underwear and reevaluate.

Are you not entertained?!

reply

Underwear changed... check.

Reevaluation... check.

New perspective... still one of the best sequels ever made.

reply

Aha! It's gone from "One of the best movies of all time" to "one of the best sequels".

Are you not entertained?!

reply

It can apply to both without it being considered a demotion. Some of the best films all-time are indeed sequels.

reply

Heck yeah, my favorite movie of all time is a sequal. Empire Srikes Back.

reply

America... F YEAH!

reply

After seeing it yet again, there can be no doubt it's the best sequel the genre has ever produced.

reply

Ten years from now, this will still be a benchmark.

reply

It's the platinum level already and I can't see that changing over any amount of time.

reply

Oh God yes!

reply

It's a year later and most agree that this film set the bar and continues to draw high praise. Can Cap 3 finish off the best trilogy of all-time? That's truly big shoes to fill.

reply

Too bad fake "1" votes dragged it down a bit.

reply

As if Marvel cares about ranking on sites where the voting is not fair.
