It takes the best of both worlds. The love of rural America and the value given to nostalgia from the conservatorism,and the girl-power and the diversity from the progressivism. Thats one of the reasons why its great

Definitely. I never thought about it much while watching it. The characters are all complex, what with transitioning from good guys to bad guys and vice versa. And all the different races and cultures the fairy tale setting enables. It really let the creators explore all sorts of topics from different points of view.
