Why does Dora the explorer.....(spoilers)

Fucking inject herself with the bullshit black goo crap? I thought the plan was for her to get in the cryo pod and then get her fixed up (when they arrive at their destination I presume).

Yet for no reason at all (because she's feeling poorly maybe?) she injects herself with an unknown substance (unknown to her that is...the audience knows it's death) only for her to get into a cryo pod anyway. So there was no need to do what she did (that killed her).

That really pissed me off. Because it seems like blatant "just to get a link to Prometheus in to the film" writing. It would be a dumb thing to do for most people let alone a pregnant mother.

Her health was deteriorating, she didn’t want her and her baby to die, she’d overheard that the black goo allows you to regenerate to full health (it does, but a little extra…) so in a panic she takes it and gives birth to mutant demon James Cromwell.

I got the impression she was just about dead before choosing to use it.
