I'm not optimistic about the series getting back on track with this one.

I'm not very confident in Disney's ability to deliver a good Alien movie. The Alien movies have always been pretty gruesome for mainstream, big studio horror movies. Even Covenant at least delivered on that. I hope the house of mouse doesn't tone it down.

reply

They should revive Touchstone to release more adult oriented movies like they used to.

reply

They have 20th Century Studios now, which I imagine will serve the same purpose.

reply

True.

reply

Disney and a younger cast does not inspire confidence. But I hope I'm wrong and it turns out good.

reply

Disney overseeing a new Alien with a young, ultra-diverse, female-led cast with rando diverse director? This is gonna be horrific in all the wrong ways.

What’s even more galling is that Ridley could be making his third and final prequel film while he’s still alive and working in his 80’s, but no, let’s fund some woke garbage instead 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

The only question is… will this be worse than Alien vs Predator?

reply

Federal elverez did evil dead 2013 and don't breathe so not a total rando

reply

It’s gonna be dogshit and you know it.

reply

Ridley shouldn't be involved either. His two prequels have been a disservice to his original film, full of bad writing and characters. Although they may end up better than the abomination this sounds like it might be. Shame it's in Disney's hands.

reply

Prometheus was a mixed bag of some great moments and some utter stupidity. I actually enjoyed Covenant more… but I’m undecided as to whether to consider them canon.

I like them enough to see how Ridley would have linked them to Alien, but that’ll never happen. Instead we have this Disney abortion.

reply

Covenant was worse. More stupid and further trampled on the legacy of the original. There is no way I consider either canon but sadly, having watched Alien recently, the damage has already been done. Whereas before I used to be in awe at the sense of mystery and wonder created by the alien planet they land on, and the space jockey and spaceship they investigate, I now can't get the idea out of my head that it's just some bodybuilding white giant baldy wearing a helmet. The sense of mystery has gone. I want to ignore it but it'll be forever etched in my mind. The same with the mystery of where the Xenomorph came from.

Ridley if he wanted to could have made a less canon-y Alien set of films, that doesn't touch the things that make the first Alien movie so great. Honestly though, I think he should have just not been involved full stop, unless maybe for the visuals. If you are greenlighting some of the stupidity that was allowed to happen then you're not up to the task.

reply

Prometheus and Covenant both sucked so do you really want Ridley directing this?

reply

No, I want Ridley directing his third and final prequel film, as I said.

reply

Ridley should stay away from the Alien franchise and do other things. I enjoyed Napoleon and The Last Duel much more than I enjoyed Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, two films that simply should not exist.

reply

No, he should finish the trilogy, connecting them to Alien. Abandoning the project just leaves a mess.

reply

too bad this franchise didn't end at part 3
would've been an epic trilogy i tells ya

reply

I liked Resurrection more than Alien 3.

reply

Honestly?? Too bad it didn't end after ALIENS.. ALIENS was about as Flawless as it gets

reply

Alien is very boring, I remember Red Letter Media recorded a commentary for Alien and they kept complaining the movie was boring.

I always thought Alien got great reviews due to Aliens: when people love a sequel, they tend to go back to praise the first movie. I still vividly remember when Batman Begins was released, it didn't perform particularly well at the box office, and the discussions in the IMDB forum were scarce with posts complaining the movie was boring, then The Dark Knight was released… suddenly people praised Batman Begins was a great movie too, some even lost their minds to claim it's better than the sequel: it's exactly like Alien vs. Aliens.

reply

think about it..
all three first films had a different vibe, and yet were special in their own way.

1. thriller/suspense
2. action
3. nihilism/loneliness

A+

No they did not. The only thing they trashed was computer room due to it looking like a bunch of Christmas lights but otherwise they were very favorable to the movie. In fact Rich was the only one that preferred Aliens over the original.

reply

I'm not very optimistic either.

Prometheus was okay but Covenant was dogshit.
