one thing I noticed
just finished E9 and I noticed they never mention the city or the name of the school - very generic.

Same. It felt like the series was based in the 90's eventhough they were using the latest gadgets and stuff. And not only because the show has cassette tapes, but the overall feeling was 90's. The pharmacy, the cinema, the little store etc.
@hownos, they did mentioned the school name in one the last few episodes. Only 1 time, forgot which episode.
