Good season, but ended weird and feels VERY unresolved

I liked this season, but it almost felt like the writers and showrunner thought there was going to be 12 or 13 episodes then it became 10 and they said "well, we will handle all that stuff next season". The season was very unresolved and the ending felt weird.

- Walt's civil case should've ended this season. Finding out they want to build a golf course and the lawyer doesn't care if he's guilty didn't have much impact to me. Plus, he obviously isn't going to lose the case and/or lose his job, since that would end the show.

- Just like they aren't going to have Henry die from being cooked by the sun, so it feels like cheap thrills.

- How innocent/guilty Nighthorse is was also left unaddressed. It does look like Malachi was doing stuff behind his back, but if that's the case then Walt really does just randomly assign blame to him like he's been claiming this whole time.

- Henry being Hector just ends in a bar fight.

- I'm shocked we didn't see Zach again. Walt does so much illegal/crazy stuff he seems like a hypocrite to keep him fired.

- Walt and his girlfriend breaking up just felt random.

- They kinda just forget about the Irish Mob towards the end. If that was the conclusion of that storyline then it felt underwhelming.

- Vic is already kinda annoying, I'm not sure why they'd throw a baby and her being pregnant into the mix. She was being very weird and aggressive to Travis for no reason.

I liked the season, I'm glad the last two have made Mathias and Nighthorse more dimensional and it's good at being serialized rather than case of the week. However, the last two episodes should've felt more epic and wrapped up storylines. Also, between Walt beating up Henry, being mean to Cady, not bringing back Zach, breaking more laws, and on some level deserving to lose his civil case - the show makes him more of an a-hole and I don't think it meant to do that.

I never saved anything for the swim back.

agree on all points. I guess it gives the writers more story lines to deal with next season...assuming there is a next season.

Feels like this isn't the first time Henry has been in danger at the end of a season cliff hanger.

Having Vic preg feels something like, Katee has in her contract X amount of scenes and the writers aren't sure what to do with her (other than having her present stress face all the time), so one of the writers said.."i got lets get her pregnant". That will solve the issue.

Every G/f Walt gets randomly goes away...not sure what happened to that little blond MILF but i liked her.

One particular think i enjoyed, Mathias wasn't such a a-hole this season. Maybe just a little with the whole Hector thing but he let Henry off the hook.

Good season, i binge watched to fast unfortunately.

I don't want to be that guy and it still could be what you said but in the books Vic gets knocked up.

reply

Also what else could Katee do? I mean I doubt she'd find a star role like this. May as well stay with it.

reply

I agree with all your comments.

I love the show, but what were they thinking? The ONLY reason I didn't drop it after this season is the hope that it gets back on its feet next season.

reply

Season five felt like the show lost its edge.

I guess I'm the only one but I didn't feel nearly as negative as everyone else on this board (to various degrees) although I despise cliffhangers especially with streaming services not having scheduled return dates. That part bothers me with loose ends that need tying up, but even that I'll probably be fine with when they tell us for sure if and when it's cling back.

yeah - this season was incredible! all except for the sucky wrap-up or lack thereof.

i also hope nighthorse decides to do the honorable thing and save walt somehow, thereby ending walt's weird obsession with him.

Although I still have the last two ep. to watch, I don't think the mob storyline is done with. Just what I have seen to have it end the way it did so far was really odd. But then again, the writers of this show, really do intertwine things, and then bring them back around which keeps things interesting.

I have to say, I really enjoy Travis' mom. She is hilarious. How old is Travis anyway, she seems to think he is 10 years old. Every time she opens the door and interacts with anyone I have to laugh.

reply

yeah, travis' mom added humor in the darkness, but travis manages a good bit of humor on his own and i admire him manning up. aemon, by comparison, was tres pathetic.

reply

I like Travis, and would expect him to step up. Aemon doesn't interest me at all. When she talked to him in the bar on the last show of season 4 he acted like he didn't remember that they slept together.

Paradoxically I enjoyed the season but was very disappointed and getting on for bored and frustrated at the end. This court case was in existence at the start of the season and it was no further ahead at the end. Have the writers run out of ideas for other stories because I'm sick to death of this one. Can we please not have a single story that progresses over 3 seasons at least. 1 season is more than enough for one story - preferably less than one season per story and let's have some variety in the thing. The cast is excellent as are the locations but it's totally run out of imagination in the writing. A great shame :(

For some reason, I thought I'd read there were 20 episodes. Watched the 10th and thought how weird that ending was. Clicked to go to the next and it started over on S1E1. Boo!

I think Malachi having Henry left out in the sun was just a plot device for Cady's sweat lodge vision. She'll save him and be considered a true Cheyenne, and that is when she and Nighthorse will get together.

I agree it was a cheap cliffhanger though.

I haven't finished the last show of the season, but so far what has bothered me the most about this whole season, was Walt's treatment of Cady. I know he mentioned that parents have to let their children go and make their own mistakes, as if he feels Cady is making a mistake working on the reservation.
But the worst part about that, was he didn't even make an attempt to see is she was doing okay after shooting that guy and almost getting killed herself. He acted indifferent to her the whole season. That really doesn't make sense with him as a father, as that hasn't been how he has been the rest of the seasons.

reply

On the whole, Walt has been a complete dick in this season. If he carries on that way in the next, I doubt I will see it through. To me it is a development that has ruined the show.

reply

I agree with that the civil case is getting dragged out to all hell. It seems to me the lawsuit is meant to be a symbol of Walts downfall. Turning against Cady and Henry because of their involvement with Nighthorse. I also that Walt being wrong Nighthorse is interrsting plot turn. I think that Walt losing his the sherrif role after say taking down Malici or the Irish mob would be a good end to the series if the sixth season is the end.

reply

They went with the Game of Thrones season structure.

Wrap everything up the current season's plot in ninth episode, then use the final episode to lay out the narrative for the next season.
