..... and I thought it was pitiful when people claimed to be Native American due to having a full blooded grandmother.

IDK...Since my father was full blooded and looked like an Indian from the 1800's not the white people with braids of nowadays.
I would have to say anything less than 50% is BS to me.
I understand how you could feel that way, but . . .
Many Indian Nations require a much lower blood quantum level for membership (e.g., the Kaw Nation, at only 1/32). Many tribes do not even look at blood quantum, but only at lineal descent from tribal rolls, and the Cherokee is one of those. So if Phillips can prove his lineal descent, he is a "real" Cherokee Native American.
If an Indian Nation considers someone to be part of their nation, then who are you (or anyone else) to naysay it?
But would we be interested in seeing your father in this television show or would we rather see an accomplished actor?

There's several accomplished Native American actors that could have portrayed Henry Standing Bear than a Filipino actor.
I'm guessing that you did not fully understand my statement as I did not implied that my father would have been a better choice. I only mentioned him as an answer of what I consider a real indian. I should have drawn you a nice pretty pictures with Crayons so you could have fully understood.

Acting - you don't have to be native american to play native american. You don't have to be gay to play a gay person. You don't have to be dead to play a dead person.
LDP has said in interviews it is important to him to be a working actor. Perhaps others weren't willing to do a basic cable series or relocate out of state. Maybe the producers wanted a name. There could be a million reasons why they picked him for this part.
LDP is half Filipino, second he's an American actor, not a Filipino actor.
