It's so cold and antiseptic. I'd rather have a warm carpet. I don't know...maybe it's just me.
Also it's quieter if you live in a two floor house if the upstairs has hardwood flooring the noise in the downstairs will be horrible.
I had carpeted floors downstairs for YEARS, and was FINALLY able to take it out and have hardwood floors installed instead. It's beautiful, and I "warmed it up" by placing area rugs where the living and dining room is so that things are broken up. I don't have it installed upstairs because of the sound issue which yes, would occur from upstairs to downstairs, but definitely love having it downstairs. And I have a VERY open concept home (an open loft overlooking the majority of the downstairs). There's really no noise interference though. But I don't wear shoes in the house, so that helps.
To each their own, though.

Bare floors are a fad, like open concept, barn doors, waterfall countertops, brass ("gold") faucets, double bathroom sinks, and all the other stuff they do over and over in every house. Ten or fifteen years ago they were painting walls red. It all passes to make way for the next craze.
