They're total crooks!

Particularly the real estate agent every house he always overbids and these must be some MAJOR affluent areas. A piece *beep* house that needs to be gutted being sold for nearly a million. Or are Canadian buyers that big of suckers to pay full asking for a *beep* house?

Each city has its good and bad areas. I live about 15 miles south of Washington, DC, and worked in the city for nearly 27 years. Admittedly I never lived in the city, but parts of it are wonderful and others are rundown and can be dangerous if you're going around on your own. I've also been to Cleveland a few times, and the parts I was in were very nice and the people were very welcoming and friendly.

I'll get back to you after I've consulted with Satan.

I've seen most of Ohio and it's a pretty and clean state. Unlike Michigan, where I lived for several years.

How did Flint get in that list? It's significantly smaller than the other cities and never a prime real estate or highly sought after city. Flint has always been a *beep* hole.

No one wants to live in the shi*holes of the US: places like St. Louis

You can get some real deals in Ferguson MO these days.

Toronto, Vancouver, and especially Calgary must get HORRIBLY cold and windy and snowy in the winter. Even here in MD it's too cold for me in the winter. Florida, here I come!

By the way, my home in Olney costs a lot less than an equivalent home in Bethesda, 10 miles away, or in Arlington, VA, 20 miles away. My daughter went from a fixer-upper in Arlington with off-street parking that cost $875,000 to a gorgeous 5 bedroom 3 bath with a beautiful yard and a 2-car garage a mile from a huge shopping mall in Raleigh NC that cost $500,000!

I'm going to chime in here, just as pretty much everyone else has, to correct you in a big way. They're in Canada. The costs of homes are much higher there, especially in and around the big cities and the Canadian dollar vs. USD isn't the same either. Before calling people crooks you may want to have a little more information.

Housing prices are different in different areas. In some places, property prices are incredibly high. Where I live, they're super low. Just varies. In a major city, they're going to be higher than a smaller town. In different countries they can vary as well.

That's the cost of living up there, it's wicked expensive. It's like that in the States as well, some areas are just wicked expensive to live in.
There are places where the cost of living is low, like Fixer Upper is located in and deals in some of those areas. Some of those massive houses go for $10,000-$50,000.

Well to the main topic at hand; it's that infamous saying in real estate, "location, location, location". I think most of these homes they deal with on this (and the other shows) are in hugely popular areas, probably out the outsides of major cities and hot locations where jobs are. You got to realize, the jobs these people have are mostly probably big, corporate jobs to pay for these homes. And that usually means working in a city.

Where I live, well, I have relatives that bought brand news homes and they were priced at $400,000~. They are practically mansions, especially compared to the average homes I see sold on "Property Brothers". But the thing is; these beautiful homes are at least 30-45 minutes away from the major city where they work.So they are looking at 2~ hours of commute every day. That time adds up day-by-day. Over a lifetime, you can spend a couple YEARS of your life doing nothing but work commute. I think the people on these shows wisely consider time a factor. They want to spend as much time with their spouse/kids as possible, not on commute, hence why they buy expensive homes but smaller homes closer to where they live.

I don't consider the hosts crooks, I believe this is what they honestly pay for homes like this considering their locations.

Never understood why the "asking" price would be so far below market value. Why don't they put asking price at market value. You see this on Flip or Flop as well where they buy properties for offers above asking price.

Prices are high in Canada? How's your Socialism working out? Speaking of crooks, ever notice these guys always use up the entire budget? Same thing happens on Fixer Upper, Love it or List it, etc... I bet the receipts don't add up.

reply

The receipts sure do not add up on Love it or List it because a huge chunk of the clients money goes to cover the production costs. [as if these crooks weren't getting advertising $$] And that's why they are currently being sued. If I were a past client of LIOLI I would check the receipts and join in.
