Is it even possible for critics to give this a fair review?

Anyone who doesn't praise it is going to be labeled a racist.

It's like the media reporting for years that Michelle Obama is an attractive woman, no one actually believes that shit but they feel they have to say it.

reply

This, folks, is the kind of nonsense you’ll repeatedly see from CONservative twerps online when the official reviews for this film (which will likely be raved about) drop. But as if that’s not happening enough already.

And that random dig at the Obamas? Just the usual bullshit that spews from miserable right-wing trolls... same as their empty-headed messiah, drumpf.

Time to stop acknowledging these loons.

Time to stop acknowledging these loons.
I can't help myself in trying to engage them in a conversation to tease out the "why" they say what they say. In some ways it is cathartic because I get the chance to "Lecture" them on their POVs.

One of the narratives that they have jumped on that had them so triggered, so enraged, so outraged and so broken in spirit was that President OBama Lectured them for eight years. It is the funniest slight to their collective psyches that I have ever heard.

reply

Yeah, engaging with them proves to be utterly pointless most of the time. But it is always tempting haha.

Oh well, I’m giving it a rest for a while. :)

reply

Sorry, Michelle Obama looks like someone hit her with a shovel.

Iman, Halle Berry, Naomie Harris, Carmen Ejogo?

HOT HOT HOT

reply

It's an example of the same mentality.

The press and fashion critics have to rave about Michelle Obama's beauty when everyone knows she's hideous.

They have to praise this movie (which may very well be good) due to the cast.

I honestly don't believe any mainstream critic can be objective. And they universally praise filth like the new Star Wars movies due to the feminist shit and diversity casting, it goes without saying that their opinions on this film are even less reliable.

reply

The OP has a legitimate point and everyone knows it , despite the other posters lambasting him/her as "CONservative" or whatever.

No one could criticize what NObama did during his 8 years without being called a "racist." Get real. It was his loony libertine non-policies that were the problem (like allowing mentally ill men to legally use the women's restroom -- rolling my eyes); and criticisms in general had nothing to do with his skin color.

Same with Michelle NObama: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course, and there are many hot black, Asian and Native women out there, but I personally don't consider Michelle good-looking. To me, she looked like the Grinch with dark skin. She was usually frowning, probably because she hated America. Who knows? But, like the OP said, everyone HAD to gush about how supposedly beautiful she was -- yet not because they honestly believed it -- but because it was the politically correct thing to do. If you didn't want to commit career suicide in the media you went along with the lie.

As far as the Black Panther goes, I'm a fan going back to "Panther's Rage" in the comics. As such, I have no "racist" agenda against the film. If I were a "racist" I wouldn't even have read or collected the comics. But, as the OP points out, there's likely going to be a backlash against any legitimate criticism of the movie by non-black folk (especially white) on the grounds that they're "racist."

Needless to say, those who submit to this kind of idiocy are mindless sheeple or, if they're in the media, just want to keep their job.

reply

So you think Michelle is attractive? Or that we should not offend the presidential family, but only when they're Democrats?

I bet you also think critics of girly Ghostbusters are sexist!

reply

When a "crappy" movie gets praise from critics, yet doesn't have any easy targets like "girl power" or "diversity" in it, does anyone start shouting "It only gets praise because of white privilege" or anything like that?

I've never seen that happen. The backlash instead turns to the popularity of the franchise, or the popularity of the writer/director, or the marketing. You know, things that ACTUALLY have an impact on success and critical response.

Anti-diversity types and anti-feminists just love to pick easy targets to rant about and use for bashing people or movements they dislike. A movie still has to be made by white males, and mostly starring white males, in order for those "anti" types of people to actually consider the movie as a piece of work, and in the context of its industry. Otherwise, their biases compel them to believe that the "girl power" or "diversity" is the sole defining feature of the movie.

What's HILARIOUS about these anti-diversity and anti-feminist types is that they CLAIM to hate "hearing" about these issues, yet they bring them up all the time, even when they're not exactly relevant!

Hell naw, they don't ever say that s***---you're right about that. The OP's ignorant (and frankly, stupid as hell) assumption (despite the fact that this person hasn't even seen the film yet) that critics won't be able to judge it on its own merits just speaks volumes about their own prejudice about the film (which they still haven't seen yet, mind you.) She/he acts like the film's just going to be given a pass simply because it's a film about a black superhero, not because the film could actually be any good (if the fact that it's been selling out more advanced tickets than any other superhero film and getting a lot of good buzz, isn't a clue, I don't know what the hell is.) And the OP's rant just basically proved your entire point, especially with that stupid uncalled-for crack about one of the Obamas.

reply

Yup, well said, and agreed that the Obama bit made the bias so obvious.

She/he acts like the film's just going to be given a pass simply because it's a film about a black superhero

I like the double standard, too, which I've also seen on recent "feminist" movies: Either it'll get a pass and be praised because of "diversity" (which many assume of Last Jedi), or it sucked and was a critical failure because it focused on diversity instead of storytelling (Ghostbusters 2016).

reply

WOW! You seriously don't see what an incredible hypocrite you are do you? You are hilariously pathetic.

reply

Don't like it? Don't watch it. Don't cry about it

reply

The movie critics have been SUBJUGATED by Disney. If they don't give Disney/Marvel/Lucasfilm movies high ratings, they're out of a job and onto the streets.

reply

No matter how good or bad this movie is, a high percentage of the reviewers will give it 5 stars with journalists wetting themselves over it spouting stuff that it’s brave and bold and breaking new ground whilst failing to acknowledge the Blade comic book hero trilogy!

It will take a brave man (or woman) to rate it 3 stars (average) which pretty much all Marvel movies have been up to this point.

reply

If black Panther is so brave why don't it fight raycism

reply

Notorious:

People already recall, know and acknowledge Blade---but let's be real, it's been over a decade since the last Blade film (which wasn't anywhere near as good as the first two---BLADE 2 is incredible, and even almost better than the first, IMHO--mainly because Guillermo del Toro directed it)----when's the last time you saw a major film featuring a black superhero? Can't think of one,can you? 'Nuff said right there. And Blade and Black Panther are two entirely differently characters----they're not automatically both the same simply because they're black. I'm sure people can make up their own minds about whether they like BLACK PANTHER or not----after they actually get a chance to see it.

reply

when's the last time you saw a major film featuring a black superhero? Captain America movies, Iron Man movies, X-Men Movies, Fantastic Four (I didnt watch this one!)

I only point out Blade because people try to make out BP is somehow ground breaking, just like they did with Wonder Woman. There have been black and female solo heroes before both by some years.

reply

Why not? The panned Catwoman, pan every Madea movie, panned that Shaq superhero movie...

Coleburg:
So what if you don't find Michelle Obama attractive (which she is)? Nobody gives a damn what you think about her, and frankly, I am sick of you stupid right-wing idiots constantly dragging the Obamas into a conversation which is not even about them. So why even bring them the hell up in the first place? And of course, critics can judge this film just like any other damn film they see on the regular. Why don't you just admit that you don't like the fact that a film about a black superhero exists (even though it isn't even out yet) and it's pretty arrogant and backwards of you to suggest that the film (which you haven't even seen yet, so your opinion of it dosen't even matter right now) can't be viewed on its merits like any other film. So you can take your opinions and shove them right back up your stupid racist a**, for I all care.
