Worst film of 2015? It's a candidate

First 15 minutes weren't too bad, soon as number 22 became Chappie it went downhill big time. Not only was the dialogue horrendous, were we supposed to care for it?

I assumed the robot would be given consciousness under the maker (Dev Patel), with the company finding out and raging war against him for doing something so dangerous. Typical sci-fi plot perhaps, but the alternative in this was terrible.

The most idiotic-genius in TV film history decides to try his little experiment by giving a robot consciousness and left under the guidance of criminals, who make it abundantly clear they want it to fight for them... i don't expect reasonable decisions in films like this, but why would the writers make him look like a complete flid? With the chances of the experiment going horribly with criminals teaching it, why not repair the robot so it could protect him, then replace it with his master code (a DAT file for consciousness btw, lol!)

Not only that, this idiot persists in coming back to the criminals who kidnapped him and threatened to kill him, and speaks to the robot like it's mentally retarded (after telling the criminals it can learn at an exponential rate). What was the point?

Then there's Hugh Jackman's character who is about as cliched a movie villain ever written, and what was with the dodgy hair-do? In fact, who was meant to the villain of the piece in this film? The criminals who had Chappie? Vincent and his Robocop-copy-cat machine? Michelle and the company? Hippo? It's like they couldn't decide who it was.

All in all just a truly terrible film, giving it a three was generous.

The movie teased the audiences about the positive and negative aspects of the use of ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. Stephen Hawkings and Bill Gates both expressed strong reservations about the use of artificial intelligence to superimpose over acts thought through the human brain!

That is what, in effect, Vincent was all against! Maybe it is his personal villainy that was turning off audiences ( Hugh Jackman is an excellent actor  ) --

But it is good food for thought!

I think the movie is a strong presentation of this issue!

It's a great film that clearly went over a lot of peoples' heads - kind of like District 9.

Neil likes to do realistic sci-fi, not stupid laser blaster Space Opera.

Showing Chappie's consciousness grow (albeit at a very accelerated rate) was not only realistic but quite fascinating, especially to those of us that code and do ponder how one could bring about a "digital AI"... we know that we could make a "wet AI" if we made it similar enough to our own brain... but on a standard CPU, who knows. It's neat to see somebody explore the possibilities.

Far from being one of the worst films of the year, it's one of the best.
