I believe these are those reasons
1. Its not set in a familiar place like USA, London, etc...
2. Main cast was not familiar and looked weird.
3. People were expecting a straight serious Robot movie more in tone with D9 or Robocop
4. Ending was anti climactic and weird
5. Chappie was "too humanlike'' and not enough badass police robot.
I would agree with all five.

shareI liked the movie well enough. But I felt they could have gone in 10 different directions with this idea and went with the ugliest one. I didn't care about the thug guy, Ninja, or his quest for more money for another thug idiot.
I think the movie would have been far better if they stuck with an examination of the police department and the breakthrough in AI. Have Chappie do some soul searching about being a police robot for example. Drop the entire gangster plot line.
Just my 2 cents.
All the low-life gangsta idiocy and the total absence of music in the soundtrack.
shareFirst, I don't hate it. I gave it a 6/10. None of your reasons affected my decision. My rating was for the piss poor acting and dialog throughout the movie. We know these actors can act, so the blame falls on the director and screenwriter. District 9...4/10. Elysium..7/10.
