Christian Bale is going to die when he's 50

And I mean that with every bit of respect.

This man has to be destroying his body.

He forces himself to nearly starve to death for one role, gains 100 pounds of muscle for his three Batman roles (movies where he's barely ever even shirtless), and then bloats himself for another role a year later.

That can't be physically healthy. But man, that must take some serious dedication. He didn't know if these movies were going to be any good. He didn't know if these movies were going to make money in the box office. For all he knows, something crazy could have happened and they'd have to cancel.

But he does it anyway, and the results are incredible. He's a fantastic actor.

I look forward to seeing him get breast implants for his next role.

He also has a very aggressive streak.

He is very dedicated to his craft & is a wonderful physical actor.

But, I too wonder what a toll this could be taking on his body in the long run.

This has crossed my mind as well. He got away with a lot of it when he was younger and his body could snap back with ease, but I wonder what type of toll it is taking on him. Now that he is 40, a lot of these transformations won't occur as easily. And I imagine the health issues will manifest a lot quicker. Still, you can't say he doesn't take his craft seriously.

There are few things as fetching as a bruised ego on a beautiful angel. 😇 

Tom Hanks got diabetes a couple of years ago. He is also known for changing weight throughout many roles.

The IMDb Trivia Section says he herniated two discs by slumping for this role.

He was going to amputate his own leg for 3:10 to Yuma, but Warner Brothers wouldn't let him.

Warner told him they have this thing in the 21st Century called "Visual Effects" that can take care of that kind of stuff!

Good work, my friend.

If that's true, then shame on the studio. That would've been epic. Somebody that stupid has to be allowed to do his thing. We were all cheated.

That's why method acting is an outdated and unnecessary form.

There's a reason Meryl Streep is considered the greatest.

reply

It's not unnecessary. I bet all those method actors take their roles very seriously, especially ones that involve a sex scene. They probably convince their costar about how great is it to be method and to try it.

Because it's just like the art world. If a few critics say so, several more agree to "sound smart" also.

I've never seen what's so great about her. I thought she was very good in "Silkwood" but very "method-y" in other roles.

There are healthy ways to drop and gain weight, especially if you make a lot of money to hire the best nutritionists. Athletes, specifically combat athletes, that have to cut to make weight do far worse to their bodies on diet alone than what Bale does to himself.

If you can read this then you are trying too hard.

reply

If you have good dieticians to guide it, you might be able to do it without much damage. A naturally thin person has a better chance because it's easier for them to lose gained weight.
I wonder if they used foods or drugs to bloat them with waterweight gain for the heaviest scenes. Some drugs can cause you to bloat too. So they are never really that fat.

Dude, if Keith Richards can make it to 71...

Surely he must be getting some form of guidance when he changes his body structure for roles? What about a body MOT, to keep tabs of what is going on internally.

I am amazed how he has managed to transform his body from Patrick Bateman in “American Psycho to Trevor Reznik in “The Machinist”. That is serious commitment for his line of work.

Would not be so sure he'll die young. If the character (Melvin Weinberg) he played is accurate.Even popping heart pills,he is still alive at 90.
