So the intelligent hacker was fooled that easily?

He apparently created a virus so powerful not even Max could figure out how to bypass it nor could anyone else apparently. But then Carrie just shows her tits and the guy just straight up leads her to his hideout, under the assumption she was gonna fuck him in exchange for her computer getting unlocked.

Yeah so it never occurred to this dude she was just gonna come there and pull a gun on him or beat the fuck out of him until he did what she wanted? I mean he should know shes a former CIA agent so she has training for situations like this. He told her to toss her jacket and purse in the car, yeah cause no one ever heard of someone keeping a weapon strapped to their leg right?

I just found it ridiculous this dude was fooled so easily just from Carrie showing her flat chest to him.

reply

Yeah, I could maybe understand that part if she was dealing with a teenager, but not with a man his age, and not after he had actually seen the contents of her computer.

I guess we are supposed to think that he is just that desperate for female companionship.

reply

Lol hookers exist for a reason if he was that desperate, plus he essentially gave up $20,000 just for a fuck which is insane, as i said go find a hooker dude.

reply

He didn't give up $20k - Carrie has negative worth, he was never going to get that money.

He just chose a method of payment she could at least actually offer.

I agree, though, that he shouldn't have underestimated her and assumed she wasn't a threat.

I found it more hilarious that the random stranger on 4Chan was in the same city as Carrie. Like what the frack?

reply

Good point, I didn't even think of that. But of course it's extremely unlikely.

reply

I completely, COMPLETELY believe it.

If you know any smart people. . .any smart Range of people. . ."hackers" included. . .you know for a Fact that common sense is not always tied to specialized knowledge/skill. In fact, in my experience, that's rarely the case.

One thing I know for Sure: there are DEFINITELY people out there *exactly* like that guy. Who could get pulled in Just Like That. 4Chan trolls w/deep coding skills; antisocial/sociopathic tendencies, poor impulse control, and poor judgement/blind spots. Commonly, they think they're much, much "smarter" (for lack of a better word) than they are. It trips them up. Not always, but much of the time.

reply

The people who encrypt folks computers are in Eastern Europe.
They don't live down the street.

reply

Also: it's important to realize he didn't "Create a virus so powerful. . ." etc. He encrypted her computer, using a trojan. Different scenario; different implication. W/O the key, it's not a matter of how smart Max is. . .*nobody* could crack it. We don't even know he created the encryption. . .you could use the same program, to the same effect. Google "ransomware," it's pretty interesting.

reply

Yeah, I don't know why the OP thought he was the creator.

reply

One reason Bitcoin and other virtual currencies need to be illegal.

reply

Not to mention Carrie is not that attractive, or young any more.

The thing that really bothered me in the next episode is where
the President Chief of Staff lies about a Presidential order.

This show has gone 6 year keeping things more or less on a
leash that seemed pretty tight and easy to suspect one's disbelief
on, but this last season is going off the tracks very quickly.

reply

This reminded me of the ways 24 used to go off track sometimes. Like when Jack’s daughter got stuck in a bunker with some apocolypse nut in S1. Just a useless sub-drama to fill time.

reply

What I found ridiculous about it is how that storyline went nowhere. As quickly as it started it was gone. What was the point of it? It did not add anything to the story as a whole.
