Watching Inherent Vice on Acid

This was seriously the most incredible thing I have ever experienced. I have tripped before, and tripped while watching movies, but this was something completely different. I seriously lost where the movie ended and the real world began. I was completely in Doc's shoes the whole time. Lost in the mystery, letting it all wash over me. I will have to re-watch sober, but I swear it was like PT Anderson planned for this. Almost like the actors were acknowledging that I was on an acid trip. I had to keep pausing and checking to see if what I was seeing was real or if I was imagining things. And I am sure I was imagining things, or at least exaggerating them, but it felt like the shots and actors actions were planned with this in mind. Every time I would think, nah, this is all just coincidence, and then some glance would happen. Or just when my mind was really blown, there would be an explosion of violence happening. I saw the film once sober when it came out in at the beginning of 2015, and I have not re-watched it until now, so I am very, very curious to re-watch the movie sober and see if there is any validity to my own claims... probably not. Either way, if you are into Acid, great scenery, hilarious ridiculousness, and great music, then I highly, highly recommend watching Inherent Vice while on acid... you won't regret it!

That's awesome

Any film would be like that on acid. I remember the time I got my hilariously-disabled friend on acid and *beep* horribly *beep* up in the *beep* *beep* And, oh my god, there was sick, *beep* blood and *beep* *beep* everywhere and on everything, mate.

That's brilliant man, was that in the movie? I think I must have kind of missed that!

I dont get this movie, but i totally get why it would be rad on acid. For one thing it would seem they were taking acid in the editing room while editing it. Its sort of like a 2.5 hour dream sequence.

I think you'd have to be stoned to enjoy the movie. I love Joaquin and Benicio, but I couldn't figure out if this was a comedy or drama, and couldn't understand half of what was said, and most of the plot.

I grew up in this era, Timothy Leary and all. From what I gather it was a spoof homage to the stoned age of the 70s. Which would help me understand it a little better. Guess you would have to be high to get it all.

This is coming from a old stoner who went to the Rocky Horror Picture Show every Saturday at midnight for years. And saw Fantasia from a psychedic brain.

I find it to be a bit more than that. Although I do find it incredibly entertaining and hilarious, there is much more to this film than a bumbling stoner cop getting into shenanigans. Many people get lost in the intentionally overly complex plot and lose interest. Though the plot is very interesting and important, I find the main point of the movie to be how the characters, Doc especially, have difficulty facing the transition from the laid back 60s to the harsher, capitalistic, 70s. Doc finds that now the word "love" is much overused, and that business has become complex and nearly impossible to understand. Watching the course of his relationships as he struggles with the changing times is incredibly entertaining and heartwarming. As I am sure you can tell, I am a big fan of this movie. I find that many fans of this movie can be very aggressive on this site, insulting the intelligence of those who don't like it. Saying that the movie is "above them" and that if they don't get it then they should "turn it off and leave". I admit that this movie is complex, confusing and many viewers don't wish to have to watch a movie over and over again to understand it. But that's what I love about this film! You can forget about the plot, in the end Doc doesn't even understand it. You don't have to understand everything going on, you're not meant to on the first viewing. You just have to watch the relationships, experiences and situations that Doc is involved in. Get caught in the experience.
Anyway, I hope this helps clear things up and ease some disputes for some of you.
Thank you,
Mark Cohen

Fun movie but just about every movie, tv show, and interaction in general is like this.. On Acid. Taken hits close to a hundred times. It's all the same. That's what makes sid fun

Believe what you want. Don't know why I would just make it up, but it is the internet, so I understand the skepticism... I did it, tho. Just watched Willy Wonka on it recently, too. That movie was actually the best trip movie I have seen so far. Also, have you tripped? It's not really how they show it in movies. From what I understand you need to take DMT to experience that.

If I'm going to watch a movie I'll do half of a regular dose tops (usually 1/4).

Otherwise, I'm just going to listen to music, go for a walk in nature or play my electric guitar.

Umm... how many mikes do you suggest?

I mean... I can't condone anyone taking it without doing research themselves. I don't know you, your age, your size, your metabolism. If you are going to do it, you need to know what you're getting into...

Watched this movie for the first time stone sober, and thought it was OK, at best.

Watched this movie two more times after that, both times smoking a joint of lemon haze beforehand, and it made all the difference in the world. Dilated time just enough where the slow, yet chaotic pace of the movie wasn't distracting in the least. I can only imagine how fantastic it must have been on LSD. If I can rustle some up, I will certainly have to munch a few tabs before watching this again.

Thank you for the suggestion!

Violence. If its not solving all your problems, youre simply not using enough.
