What's the point?

I'm only a few episodes in, but I don't see why the producers deemed it necessary to turn a near-perfect movie with Harrison Ford into a long slog of a miniseries with Jake Gyllenhaal replacing Ford.

Oh wait, I forgot. Remakes are easy, the bones of the original are there to tinker with and come up with different twists and turns. Yeah, it's money and it's easy.

A remake just for the same of a remake. There are so many stories out there and all they have to do is pick one that hasn't been done before.

Is it a remake of the 1990 film or an adaptation of the 1987 novel? There are significant differences between the novel and the 1990 film.

reply

Remake of the 1990 film

reply

IMDB and Wikipedia describe it as an adaptation of the novel. The ending of the 1990 film differs greatly from the novel.

the movie was a slog too. it's not some untouchable classic.

reply

Agreed.

Just familiarity of the name, raises awareness of the original so more streams/sales, cheap to remake. And ultimately easy to make bc its just copying someone else's work

reply

Yeah, when the filmmakers nail it the first time, I'm not sure I see the point either.

Maybe if updating it to modern era will put a different twist on the story, I don't know, but I don't think that's the case here.

Unless they change the whole ending, this is a waste of time.
