Was it only me?

Not a bad film, the storyline was good, I've read a few of Koontz's novels and always enjoyed them.

BUT, what spoiled it for me was the obvious product placement all the way through the film, I mean I felt that they were actually pushing these products down our throats and, after watching I had two thoughts: 1.were they trying to see how much they could actually get away with, or 2.Was advertising the main route to raising the finance to make the film.

I did have a third thought that maybe there was an ironic twist to the placements, and now knowing of the graphic novels, maybe it was sticking to their form.

But really! I was like watching a 2 hour infomercial interspersed with an interesting story.... ok, I exaggerate (for comedic effect) but I did find the blatant placements irritating enough to spoil the movie for me.

Or am I just that grumpy that I felt the urge to complain?

I think it was only you.

Looks like I was the only observant one on the planet then LOL

reply

Nope. Just the only one still complaining about product placement in the 21st century when everyone else has come to prefer it (preferably done with subtlety, as it was in Odd Thomas) because it reflects the world we live in. ;-)

I just saw RadioShack and Victoria's Secret, but that's plausible because the two brands were in a mall. I didn't see any other forms of product placement.

reply

I didn't notice that at all. Maybe the terrible writing distracted me from it.

Have been watching the first 40 minutes of this movie, and it's horrible. The direction is stilted and the dialogue is horrible. There's no suspense at all. By the way, I read & loved the book. But this movie is terrible!

Why the frell are you commenting on this thread? Talk about off-topic...

ON topic: Watch any Adam Sandler movie if you want to see an insane amount of product placement. They don't even try to hide it...

No, I don't care what you think. Really. Don't bother replying.

I wanted to read the book first. Indeed there were product placements and, sure a lot of them, but they were subtle.

I drove into town in my wife's VW Passat. Parked at Tesco. Walked passed a River Island clothes store. Texted my wife on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Met her at Pizza Hut for lunch.

Our lives are filled with product placement. It would not be an accurate reflection of our world without product placement.

Short of the product taking centre stage and the story relegated to the background, I do not have a problem with products we see daily appearing on tv/cinema.

You can't palm off a second-rater on me. You gotta remember I was in the pink!

I just watched it and other than the cigarette brands mentioned in Fungus-Bob's apartment, I don't recall any product placement. So I don't think it was too obvious.
