I imagine it's practical effects combined with some cgi smoothing.
It is likely AI smoothing, I think for the moment that is the extent AI can do.
There are a lot of AI generated images and videos on instagram and youtube, they are still not mature enough to look completely real, but they are progressing very fast and getting closer.
This is what happens when we "trust the science"!
