What did you like about this?

I'm here trying to find out why so many people liked this. Weird and quirky would be OK, but they didn't even act like real human beings (even real quirky human beings) and no one ever looked happy. Or sad. Or aware. Or alive. ???

That's Wes Anderson's style.

I like the deadpan comedy.

Straightedge means I'm better than you.

reply

Agree. People never act natural in Wes Anderson movies.

reply

I feel the exact same way.
I don't understand what's so special about this movie.
It's just weird.

reply

I like the per-scene actions like when the boy zipped the tent so his father can't enter and then his father just lifts the tent a-whole.

But I agree with you, it probably needs someone aware of wes anderson's talent/style to appreciate the film.

I loved the use of color in all the sets, even in the outdoor shots. I also liked the obviously staged sets, making the movie seem a bit like theatre.
The deadpan comedy was very well done, and the (not so) hidden meaning in a lot of the dialog, especially of the 2 child lovers, was incredibly well presented. It's not a movie that children would really understand (IMO).
It was great overall; I gave it an 8.

Yes they would.

This is the kind of film that could potentially open a child's eyes. To the incompetence and malice of adults, that is.

I got news for you. Kids already know ALL about that.

Earth without art is just "eh."

reply

To me it works as an escape movie.
It's surreal, with all it's might. And that is what I find so fascinating about it.

The whole setting is so...darn brilliant. They paid attention to every little detail. The colours (as mentioned before), the dialogues. And the humour is brilliant.

And they did look happy and sad. And definitely alive.

PS: Caleb, please don't feel stalked, it just seems we have similar interests ;)

I am a signature. Call me George.

It made me happy afterwards. Not sure why, just a sweet story I guess.

Oh dear oh dear Ldotdo1 I feel for you man ... you must have some real demons in that head of yours. I didn't see any children having sex .... and if you think touching girls breast is a sex act then boy don't walk down a busy street cause you would be having sex every second.

I hope your coming of age wasn't that bad mate.

I thought the movie was pretty bland and pointless (gave it a 6) despite having a GREAT cast of some of my favs but I definitely don't understand your vitriol!!

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

Agreed. First love and dysfunctional families are timeless themes, imo.

Wes Anderson movies are escapist for me. Sure, the characters aren't that 'realistic', but I can relate to them fine. There's a dry and yes, quirky humor. Plus, his movies are gorgeous to look at, and the music in this film was sublime. Those two things are huge in my mind.

reply

Yeah, what a bad, bad movie... There's too much mannerism in it, the dialogues are unnatural..the two main characters are nowhere near cute and lovable...they are artificial, cheesy and nerve-racking. There are a lot of movies with interesting child characters, but definitely not this one.
So yeah, I don't understand either why people like this *beep* so much.

reply

to people saying "i don't get it, it's just weird" pleassse don't insult the word "weird"

David Lynch movies are freakin' weird...weird is awesome

Wes Anderson movies are crap...pure fecal matter, i'm not weirded out by his movies...unless you mean you're weirded out by the dullness of the whole thing, then yeah, i guess it's weird

reply

You are obsessed with this guy. It's scary.

Can't stop the signal.

reply

the cinematography is amazing..in all his films...this film reminds me of my childhood gone and the symbolism although at times corny is so relevant if you want to remember what it was like to be 12 in the summer

reply

I like scenes that he makes, they seem diffrent/special. And storyi is also not ordinary.
