I literally thought that this movie was derived from The Blue Lagoon!...
that story reimagined so to say.

Similar excellent movies in certain ways but all have the same 'feel':

1. If... (1968) Concerns a student revolution at an English private school.

2. Gormenghast (2000) A miniseries in which a young kitchen slave in the royal palace of a fictional country escapes and rises to a place of power on his own merit.

3. Mirrormask (2005) Young adolescents save a kingdom.

I love Gormenghast, but I really don't see how it is in any way similar to Moonrise Kingdom.

There's no actual kingdom in this movie.

Let's be bad guys.
