Did Iceman speak?

I just saw Val Kilmer on ET tonight and his voice is so shot that I wonder if he spoke in the movie at all.

reply

Yep. He speaks in the movie. He bounces between typing his words on the computer for Maverick to see and actually speaking to Maverick.

I read that Kilmer was happy with the job audio engineers had done recreating his voice so, at the very least, his natural voice was augmented in the film.

reply

Interesting. Thanks for the input guys!

reply

Really? I thought it was his actual voice since he spoke slowly. Damn, guess his voice really is more or less gone.

If you watch the documentary "Val" you can hear a clear difference. They adjusted and made it sound "movie tolerable" for his scene.

For a guy who can't speak and mainly communicates by typing and pointing, Kilmer projected a LOT of emotion and weight.

Part of it was Cruise's performance, too, showing us one of the few people in Maverick's world who get to see Pete Mitchell's vulnerability.
