Anyone else think Trent wasn't that bad?

He did a couple uncool things, but he also seemed aware of that and apologetic at times. In a lot of ways, he came across as fairly sympathetic and at least making an effort to be a good dad and potentially a good stepdad.

The Sam Rockwell character is positioned by the script as morally superior to Trent given their confrontation and so on; but the stuff he was doing to use his authority to make young women display their bodies was worse than anything Trent did.

Nope, Trent is that bad. While he may not be the guy who beats the crap out of wife or stepson, or overt abuse like that, this guy is every bit as abusive, but its emotional abuse.

Over time, living with an emotional abuser will bring to ruins every bit of self esteem, self worth and sense of one's own validity. This type of person passive aggressively chips away at their "loved one's" foundation. He's a control freak and someone who makes sure you feel like sh!t even while "seeming" like the nice guy. That's what they do. You already see it happening to the mother. It's clear as day how miserable Trent is making mother and son.

It's not just outright hitters, punchers, and OJ Simpsons who are abusive to the point of ruining minds and well being and lives.

I notice no one responds to my comparison to the Sam Rockwell character. Maybe I should have titled the thread "Why does Sam Rockwell's character get off so easy?" Any comment on that?

It says recently edited because I decided to throw in that second part.

There's a fine line between normal sexual attraction & creepiness. One might say he crossed that line. But that's what did Steph did, when she called Duncan a "perv". Some folks get a kick out of that, elevating themselves by putting others down.

Owen knew the woman. She addressed him by name at the bottom of the slide. And she was a woman, not a teen. She's billed on IMDB as "beautiful woman". Let's not overstate his authority. He's a flunky working the waterslides. Even kids seem to routinely ignore their orders.

Hey, one of my most resilient threads is still here...sort of. A bit garbled, hard to follow, and certainly incomplete...but at least a vestige remains. Cheers!
