Just another New Yorkers in New York doing New York things show.

The pretension of these shows is so palpable, I cannot watch them anymore. I'm not sure what the glamour of New York is, it's a gigantic dirty place filled with impatient *beep* I've been there plenty of times, I have a sister who lives there and is in love with it as most people who stay there do, but I just don't see the appeal of taking forever to get anywhere in a car, or relying on public transportation that smells like fresh feces at every stop. People get duped by shows like these into thinking living in NY puts you in some sort of special club, when all shows like this do is reinforce the mindset that living in NY makes you better than everyone else.

On top of all that, this show is just not funny, though it tries very very hard to be.

Okay, bye.

I suppose you could boycott all movies and TV shows set in NYC, but that would require to you avoid reruns of "I Love Lucy" and "The Honeymooners", two of the best sitcoms of all time. Film-wise, you would also have to boycott the likes of "King Kong", "Midnight Cowboy", "Annie Hall", and most of Scorsese's output.

What city would you suggest as the setting for "Girls"? Since Lena Dunham is a lifelong New Yorker, maybe she simply is incorporating what she is most familiar with into the show's setting?

Boycotting "Annie Hall" is a good idea, but one doesn't have to boycot "King Kong", as it doesn't really depict New York in a very romantic light. Quite the opposite.

I have to agree with you here. One of my friends is unreasonably obsessed with the idea of new york and living there. He currently lives on another continent and I keep telling him immigrating into the US is not that easy. But he wants to make it happen. Well go for it if you want it so much, but I doubt it will be the big thing that finally makes him happy.
