The movie aint terrible, its ok, but it just felt like the cliche nostalgia trip that everything from the past gets nowadays, like "Hey remember this? oh remember that? oh remember them?".

Then you had scenes like the car breaking down exactly after leaving the mall and seeing Santa, like seriously? we going beat for beat here with everything from the 1st movie? The bullies, the tree, the fuse blowing, the triple dog dare stuff.

And Ralphie as an adult still having childlike daydreams? come on, i buy a kid doing that, but no one goes into adulthood still daydreaming off into fantasies, thats stuff kids did. But it had to be in there cause it was in the first movie.

Again its not a terrible movie, but its just a nostalgia cash in that didn't really need to be made and is just nothing but constant references to the first movie.

Its like no one had some amazing idea for a story that needed to be told, its just "Hey look how everything from the past is now getting sequels and tv shows, lets do that with a Christmas Story and just get the cast back and reference everything we can think of from the first movie".

The only thing I could disagree with is the adult daydreams. I think a lot of people do it all the time. Especially if they are bored, depressed, stuck in dead end jobs. So that doesn't bother me. But I agree with all the other stuff. My problem is when it's a movie that's still watched on the regular, it's hard to do the 'hey! Remember that!' thing because...YES...we do...we watch this movie every single year...for 24 hours...EVERY Christmas! Whereas a movie like 'Top Gun Maverick' works a little better because, though it was a popular movie, 'Top Gun' is not something a majority of people watch on the regular or really think of watching. So it does have the feeling of being away for a while.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I'm just planning on going in with the mindset of it's just being made for stupid fun. It will probably be a once and done for me; it could never beat the classic

Agree, I think the movie was mostly just ok. There was some charm and I liked the way they treated the “old man”. That said it was brutal when they kept giving us the SAME scenes that we saw in the original. 1-2 homages would have been fine but they put way too many in. Can they not create any new scenes? The bullies again? Really?

Btw why did they bother with the “former quarterback” turned alcoholic character? He added absolutely nothing and he was not needed at all

No movie is necessary, but this movie is quite entertaining, so I'm glad they made it.

Sort of like the second N in "unnecessary".
