Happy New Year everyone! FAIR WARNING Tonight's episode for some reason IS THREE HOURS LONG. (No indication on my guide that this is the season finale but it may possibly be)
Here is the synopsis for tonight's episode: Season 7 Episode 7 Meri revisits the catfishing situation, and her new details lead to a reckoning with Kody; Mariah makes a huge announcement.
Well, last night's episode was ok. I do wonder if we'll see more of Cheryl down the line as I suspect they will go back to the catfish crap at some point. Meri did say she'd love to have her come to Las Vegas and meet everyone.
As for Mariah announcing she's gay, as I said in another thread, I really don't care. However, it does seem that Meri and Kody were shell shocked by the news. I really wonder how that scene was planned out ahead of time.
Any parent would be shell-shocked, but they adjust if they're not asshats. They will play it up for all it's worth on air but in reality, I'm sure everyone will accept and support her. Everyone on Twitter was so supportive, Mariah had to tweet and thank everyone.
I don't mean they wouldn't support her. I think they are supportive of all the kids in what they do even though they may not agree with it. To me, it seemed as though they just didn't like it. I guess they are good actors.
Do you think that what happened to Meri had any bearing on this being as in earlier seasons that Mariah was adamant about being polygamist?
I know you remember when the show first started that Mariah, indeed, was adamant about being polygamist. Of course as she grew older and went to college she obviously changed her mind, which she is entitled to do. Do you think Mariah was struggling with coming out about the time the catfish crap happened?
On an completely insignificant note, I wish we had an open chat room instead of this!!! All the email notifications get annoying---I guess I need to turn that off. LOL
I think the show is going to dovetail Mariah coming out with Meri being catfished if they want to up the ratings. In reality, I think everyone knew. The reason I have that opinion is some of the public had that idea and by the time someone comes out to the world, their family and close friends already know. They created a lot of drama, but the fact Christine's mother was in there and she had a smile on her face leads me to believe some of them knew. Maybe they set up Meri and Kody, but come on, she's their daughter. I know they have their stuff and they act clueless, but they're not.
Any parent would be shell-shocked, but they adjust if they're not asshats.
Speaking from personal experience most parents aren't that shocked or surprised, unless they are asshats.
When Mariah made her big announcement my first was "well that explains all the flannel shirts she has been wearing." I also thought "what a drama queen, she not only comes out to her five parents, but to 3 million viewers." Well, that is what has made Mariah your not too average TV star.
There is a certain irony about Meri being catfished by a lesbian while her daughter was coming to grips with her own sexuality. I would love to have been a fly on the wall in Meri's house this last summer while she and Mariah were sharing the house after Mariah's big announcement.

I think some parents could be shocked and surprised - I don't think the Browns were, but it's how they process the information and act on it that shows what kind of people and parents they are.
did anyone else think that session with Meri, Cheryl and the therapist was a total waste of time? Meri & Cheryl were so vague, and the therapist didn't do or say too much at all. it seemed so pointless to me.
Thank Goodness I dvr the show because there was no way I was watching this for 3 hours, 2 hours of which was about the catfish. AGAIN. I fast forwarded through ALL of Meri's scenes and did not watch that last hour of clips. No way.
