Honestly, I feel like all I ever read is people complaining about "ANOTHER found footage film??"
I dont care if it is Barry Levinson - this just proves how out of touch Hollywood is with what the public actually wants. It's a stupid gimmick that people have already been tired of for a couple years and they just keep doing it! Knock it off, Levinson!
Well, the fact is, the numbers don't suggest that everyone is sick of them or complaining about them. You also gotta remember, this is the internet, and nobody is allowed to be happy on the internet... it's all just people whining and complaining and crying about what they don't like.
I'm more than happy to see found footage films every once in a while, since there usually are a few gems hidden among all of the lesser releases. The same as any genre. I wouldn't say "Stop making comedies" just because a lot of comedies suck... since there are a lot of good comedies that are worth waiting for and wading through the poor ones to find. Just as I don't think you should say "Stop making found footage movies" just because some of them suck, since there are some good ones.
And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?
There is only one that I really enjoyed which was Cloverfield.
Many people have the problem I did with the first 20min or so which I guess was meant to be character development which IMO wasn't really needed, those who bought the DVD didn't even give it a chance and had labeled it $hît before it actually gets in to the parts we want to see.
We are all guilty of this at some time or another but its when they do it the other way round that really pi$$€$$ me off when they start a film out to look great and it turns to trash like skyline or incidious for example.
Cloverfield had a great team though and some great marketing schemes a little like what Prometheus done with the TED conference but Cloverfield done more with making websites prior to the release that made it as if the events in the film were real and actually happening and of course the teaser trailer which I only saw once but made me say to my gf at the time "we must see this film!!!!"
Unfortunately at the time things in life stopped me seeing it in the cinema so it was DVD for me and I put it on not knowing it was lost cam and thought "You are fuxing kidding me!" And as I said the 1st 20min or so was dire and for many just that small amount of time can have us decide the entire film will be the same.
Since then I have a much more open mind to give things a chance and who knows maybe we will get a surprise and find another Cloverfield, though I must admit most are tripe.
I laughed when I saw a user review on here saying that latest lost cam film where they go to the planet Europa was the best film ever made and people actually clicked that that review was helpful. Most likely people part of the making of the movie lol
I'm in America and I'm not sick of "found footage" films at all. I love Blair Witch, The Bay, & Cloverfield.
"Found footage" is no more of a gimmick than 3D is. And it's also been around for decades. There were films like "The Poughkeepsie Tapes" made in the 90s before Blair Witch. And "Cannibal Holocaust" came out in 1980.
"America isn't ready for a gay, mexican chicken sandwich"
You are not all of America. The internet is not all of America.
The fact certain movies in this genre gross a ton of money shows that you're out of touch with what people actually want to see in movies. People just want to see more GOOD movies in the genre, but that's really hard to do despite the simplified format.
Stuff like this reminds me of "Movie Poop Shoot.com" from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
