Exploitive Animal death SPOILERS

I saw this movie and was devastated by it. This is the case I think of as the most disturbing serial murder ever.

Anyway. The animal scenes really bothered me, being an animal lover. I was interested in the story, though, and once I read extensively about it, I found that John was a total animal lover, and took in/nursed animals all the time. So the scene where he makes Jamie kill his (John’s) dog, and the scene with the kangaroo guts actually didn’t happen, and was definitely not in John’s wheelhouse.

So WTF would you ADD this?! This story isn’t horrific enough on its own? Really?

I would consider this movie really gutsy (no pun intended) and brutal, an admirable, grim, sickening film. And I mean that as a compliment. But the animal scenes were pure gratuitousness. What’s sicker, the actual crimes or the people that felt the crimes weren’t ENOUGH? Shame, shame, shun.

Where did you read that? Everything I've read about him says he killed and skinned neighbourhood animals, including a friend's dog. He forced James Vlassakis to watch and sometimes participate. Bunting also worked in an abattoir in the late 80s and reportedly enjoyed slaughtering the animals there.

There was a book written by a female Aussie reporter.

You'll find no argument from me that this is one of the most brutal films that makes me feel like I need a shower afterwards. However, as someone who works in "the biz" and has irl relationships with several animal welfare in film organizations, as you'll see in the end credits, "No animals were harmed in the making of this film."

I suggest you avoid 70s/80s cannibal/exploitation films like the plague. Those showed *actual* animals being "mistreated" on film.

It seemed no Italian cannibal flic was complete without its obligatory giant turtle death.

Yeah man, I've "seen some shit," but irl mistreatment of animals really rustles my jimmies.
