This seems cute....Why so much hate?

I feel like you could make this same post on many of the boards around here and there's no real answer that makes any sense.

reply

The movie just seems really generic imho.

"Think of it. 90% of the population united against a common enemy. We'll be unstoppable!"

reply

Could be, I don't know. Somehow I doubt that the response you're feeling leads to the observation of "hate" that the OP was asking about.

reply

Well calling the movie generic could be considered hate

"Think of it. 90% of the population united against a common enemy. We'll be unstoppable!"

reply

The first teaser was atrocious. The full trailer is much better. I'm not sure if I'm going to see it in theaters (honestly it looks like something my friend who I usually see movies with would hate), but I will look into it.

reply

Yeah, I think most hate can be traced back to the first teaser, which was very bad. "You only get one chance to make a good first impression", and that was a terrible first impression.

reply

Because it will be much of the same. A bunch of PC *beep*

reply

Wow, Bandon, could you make yourself look any more immature?

reply

It's a PG animated film. Calm yourself.

reply

You people get more triggered than SJW nowadays.

reply

Truer words were never spoken, Xterme. "EVERYONE IS SO DAMN PC!! HEAR ME RAAGE!"

reply

this movie is based on brainwashing kids in to buying millions of troll toys and eat tons of unhealthy mcdonalds to own a toy, that is why the hate.

reply

So like every kids movie then? Shocking.

reply

i think not try studio gibli movies or most jap animations other than ff series.

reply

Yah. Almost zero Totoro merchandise out there.

reply

Pretty sure those spawned following the movie's success, rather than the other way around.

reply

That's not a bad reason to dislike a film, but that's probably not what we're seeing here. Most of the boards are filled with hate and dire predictions. IMDB seems to attract or allow an amount of internet troll types who are simply negative.

reply

i admit my old age made me a bit of skeptic but i will not put down a movie before seen it unless it is a re-make of a great classic, i was not happy with the trailer it seemed that they were more about brainwashing kids to buy toys but that again i might be wrong.

reply

I'm sure marketing the toys is part of it since Dreamworks owns the rights to trolls, but that's not all of it. Dreamworks exists to make animated movies. Yes, they hope to make money doing so, but it's not all about the money. It's for the fun and love of the craft. I'm not saying this will be the best animated movie ever, but it'll be something someone enjoyed working on and putting together.

One of the artists there also bakes cakes, mostly for corporate events at Disney and Dreamworks. She worked on this movie and on her facebook page wrote about how beautiful it is. She's proud of her work. She also said the trolls are going to make the cutest cakes. I happen to believe the studio as a whole has that level of integrity. They enjoy what they're doing.

reply

Won't you happen to know her name? I'm curious now.

reply

She's Fernanda Abarca. Her facebook page is here: https://www.facebook.com/FernandaAbarcaCakes/

And her online order page is here (not that I can afford anything!) http://www.fernandaabarcacakes.com/

Her work is stunning. Check out the video of her assembling the Mad Hatter cake.

reply

Thank you!

reply

I think people forget that not all animated movies are market researched money grabbers. The people who clearly care about their craft are not the same people planning the merchandise. Those are two separate things.

reply

just saw it with my daughter... and we loved it, it´s funny and sweet and it´s got some great songs in it that kids will love...

reply

I sometimes keep my TV on as background noise when doing other things. I did this today and the trailer for this movie was jarring enough for me to look up to see what kind of garbage was being shoved down our throat to be presented in such an utterly brainless fashion.

I know that sums up about 95% of Hollywood's output anymore but this was plainly bad. It reminded me of the Smurf's trailer where a good 2/3rds of the content was some Smurf making a loud siren sound... Who wants to be subjected to that crap?

reply

Read the post of the person above you. Are you the target demographic for this film? Probably not. Do you enjoy or go out of your way to watch The Wiggles, Barney, and the like? Somehow, I doubt that. Even if you find that fine, you might not be the right audience to appreciate this, but there are others that do. Again, read the post above yours.

reply

So since I'm not the target audience for this I'm not allowed an opinion?

We're allowed to have this discussion with or without your approval. Get off your high horse. If these kinds of conversations irk you then it's your problem, not mine.

reply

Interesting response - you read a lot into mine. I wasn't irked, nor was I on a high horse.

reply

*Agressive response from estcst-3. Yours was polite, this person is plain rude. You are allowed an opinion, but all you said is that the target audience is children- which is 100% true. 😄

reply

Thanks, Helena!

reply

That to me is a dangerous position.

Trolos arguably has the same target audience as Zootopia, Finding Dory, & Kubo, all of which have found a lot of love from outside the target audience. And why? Because they respect their audience. They understand the importance of quality in a movie.

I'd argue it's far more important in fact to consider the quality in kids' movies simply because these are the movies they'll grow up with. Would you rather they have Beauty and the Beast or Norm of the North?

reply

I would argue that the audience for Zootopia and Kubo is outside the target for Trolls, but that there might be some cross-over and, in any case, different targets does not speak to quality at all, simply to appeal. I've heard good things about this, that the artist involved care about what they produced, and that it is enjoyable and visually lovely. I'll let you know - heading out to see it tonight.

reply

Do you like the Trolls bright and colorful hairdo's Mary? I bet you have a Troll doll collection and like the pink one the best. Do they sit next to your your My Little Pony collection you Trollish Bronie? When you are not on here spinning your s<>t, you will be lying in bed combing their hair and tails and dreaming of the day when you will get to be with a woman for real and wonder why they avoid you.

reply

WTF rascal - why are you being such an ass? You know nothing about the person you're responding to (not even sure who that was - unvoiced?) and nothing but stuff that needs to be wiped up or flushed is in your post.

Please post like a grown up.

reply

It also needs to be said that calling someone "Mary" to imply they are a female shows you to be a complete jerk. Nothing wrong with being female, yet you imply there is. Also nothing wrong with liking Trolls, dolls, pink hair or whatever you object to. It seems like you feel threatened by this. The world can handle many kinds of people, so long as they are kind.

😄 Don't patronize me sweet cheeks. Unvoiced Mary Princess knows what I am talking about. You don't, so mind your own friggin' business.

reply

You're posting on a public forum - it's everybody's business. You put down women and anyone who likes Trolls, pink, hair, and My Little Pony using very toxic language. Guess what? A lot of the posters here are women, like Trolls, pink, hair, MLP, or know someone who does. This IS the board for Trolls, the movie!

And you're picking on someone - actually attacking them in a personal way. That's just gross. Don't act like a bully and I won't respond (or report you - I came close).

I sort of enjoyed Trolls. Had a few good laughs with it. Better than Storks, easily.

reply

Same here, frankly. The trailers made me cringe so bad seeing them before every single movie this summer. But with it having a huge radio song in it, and all the trailers, I knew my kid would be dying to see it, so we went. I expected to be miserable, but really enjoyed it. Felt like they raided my MP3s for a lot of it, to be honest.

Storks dragged in places, had a lot of speedy dialogue I had trouble keeping up with/didn't care to really keep up with, frankly. It fell flat by comparison, and I thought it would be the reverse when I saw the trailers, that I'd like Storks better.

This one is definitely getting bought. Seems like not only one I'd put on for my kid, but put on as background music to do housecleaning and such to.
