"Geeing" the dress up a bit...

Don't get me wrong. I love this version of Cinderella. I really love the actors and especially love the costumes. But I always trip a bit over the scene where the Fairy Godmother tells Ella she will change her dress "turn it into to something new", and in turn Ella says not to because it was her mother's. Fairy Godmother says she understands and then offers to "gee it up a bit" and make it blue. However, as we know, the end result of "geeing it up a bit" is a completely different dress, nothing resembling her mother's in the slightest. Which, I feel, made that whole dialogue make no sense at all. Am I alone here?

I agree. They should have made it more like this...

GODMOTHER: I'm a G up your dress, Ella!
ELLA: Donkeypunch it, mama!

I saw a slight "Sleeping Beauty" connection, with Flora saying "Make it pink!" and Merryweather replying "Make it blue!"

My people skills are fine. It's my tolerance of morons that needs work.

Good thinking...still makes me crazy though, since its pretty much changed completely. And I agree, "Gee it up" is the equivalent of "Jazz it up" 

lololol I'm so glad other people found this line to be distracting/strange/and basically incoherent. After many rewinds, my guess is that she says "cheer it up a bit". That, too, could be terribly wrong, lol, but idk wtf "gee it up" means. I do know that it became a completely different dress anyway.

I thought that was strange too. Why couldn't something like the slippers belong to her mother (I know, rip off from Ever After)? Or she gets to wear her mother's necklace. The pink dress and the blue dress had nothing in common except both were dresses.

I did like how the fairy godmother used magic so the step-family wouldn't recognize her. That was very well done.

Lizzie - I totally agree! Something that belonged to her mother should have been saved that way we can see how it still be part of her mother she took with her. Loved the magic that the step-family wouldn't recognize her too!

After watching it again (and again and again ) I think what the Fairy Godmother says is what messes it up. At the start, instead of saying:

"I'll turn it into something new"

(like she ultimately does) she should have said:

"I will give you something new".

Then when Ella says no, and TFG agrees, she can compromise by then turning it into something new!

Its a stretch, but I think it would work that way!

Loving all the comments. Here's what I found for the definition for "Gee it up" Might be a British term? I don't know, but I agree I thought that was weird too, but may this def. helps explain that comment. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/gee_up

I think she's saying 'key it up a bit'. Meaning top to enhance it. However, it does turn into a completely different looking dress.

Another person mentioned it, it's "Cheer it up." I think it's a Brit phrase since I hear it on Downton Abbey a lot.
