shareIt's a tough one cause their isn't many high school films that deal with the subjects Perks of Being a Wallflower do. It's a lot darker then most high school/coming of age films. But I give you a list of more grounded high school/Coming of age films that have the same tone as Perks.
The Edge of Seventeen with Hailee Steinfeld is one that comes to mind in that it's not as bright and happy as other high school films
The Way Way Back is another that comes to mind. It's dark in places
The Kings of Summer is another one that has a bit of bittersweet feel to it. Not as dark as Perks though.
