Hated the 'gay' storyline/character

I agree with the comments that the movie was just awful...really pretentious and hipster. And, of course, there is a gay best friend. I'm an athletic director at a high school, and if you watched tv or movies, you would think homosexuals were rampant, and it's simply not the case. And some students actually have some sense of morality and values and don't accept it. This movie was a total turd. Felt a bit bad for Emma Watson, though. She tried so hard to get the American accent right that it seemed to hamper her overall performance.

You are way off base. I love this film!

I graduated the same time the seniors did in this film, class of 1992 and this was a very accurate portrayal of high school at the time.

The film does not make it out the slightest bit that "homosexuals were rampant" as you put it. The film shows that at the time any popular kids or jocks would be afraid to come out. While, if some student was more of an outcast he would more likely to be open about being gay.

I played football and there were no gay kids or suspected gay kids on the team. However, if there was one, he would behave much like the QB did in the film. He would lie about it and keep it to himself.

A lot of people posted some nasty comments to you saying you are not worthy to teach. I have no idea about how good of a teacher/coach you are and you are entitled to you opinion. However, as a Christian and a conservative Republican I like to remind people who outright hate gays that they need to remember they are not God. You may view being gay as sinful however, you do not have the final judgement. I have gay friends who live honorable lives and are amazing people who would do anything for a friend. It is my job to judge if they are good friend or not and whether or not I want to hang out with them. It is God's job to judge the life they lead.

Sorry but after reading your post, I can't help but laugh at your claim of being an 'athletic director'. If anything, you're an athletic supporter Somebody like you shouldn't hold any position of authority over any anyone, much less of group of high school/middle school students.

Who cares if there was a 'Gay best friend'? TV and movies do not try to tell us that homosexuality is "rampant" but that it does exist and if you still haven't gotten past that, then......there's no hope for you. SMH.

Your implication that those who support Homosexuality are lacking in morals and values, is also incredibly ridiculous. People aren't required to support it but whether or not someone chooses to show their support, doesn't have anything to do with whether or not they have morals or values. Keep in mind that Homosexuals are human beings, just like you and I.

Also, regarding Emma Watson's accent, I have no idea what you're talking about. If you ask me, her American accent was perfect and if I wasn't already aware of the fact that she's British, I never would have suspected it.

I beg to differ. The people who are standing for homosexual rights in this generation would have stood for the rights of African Americans 100 years ago.

It's not a stance on their sexual orientation/race/etc .... It's a stance on human rights, and equality.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Supporting blacks and gays IS human equality. Do you not understand what equality means? Your ignorance is making you come across as racist and homophobic. Good one.

You need to work on your reading comprehension because it looks like you don't understand a word of what I said.

I'm saying that at the moment, 9 out of 10 people in western society support gays. 100 years ago, it was not the case that 9 out of 10 people supported black rights. Yet you claim that these are both fundamentally the same concept.

So what happened between 100 years ago and now? Did people magically become more ethical? Of course not, people are still people. What happened is that it became more fashionable to support gays; it's a question of which belief is more popular.

It's the same concept that correlates religion so strongly with geographic location: people will believe what other people around them believe.

Good example. Most people have very little understanding of the extent to which their behaviors and even core beliefs are influenced by their environment.

There are none so blind as those who will not see. The most deluded people are those who choose to ignore what they already know. - Jonathan Swift

My high school had 3,500 students. That means there were anywhere from 350 to 700 students who were homosexual. Since we were required to take either athletics or Reserve Officers Training Corps, which relatively few students did, that means every athletic course had several homosexual students participating.

It is more than sad that you fail to see what is in front of your eyes. It is because of your attitudes and others like you that bullying is such a problem, that some students spend years in therapy, commit suicide, take their anger out in mass murder.

Homosexuality is not a choice, any more than left handiness, which has the same proportions among the general population. It is gratifying that much of the Western World has come to realize this basic human attribute.

You should not be a teacher, an adult that guides impressionable teens. It is teachers like you that cause so much misery among students, during their high school years and, often, for their entire lives.
